Question VM Trespass? what would you do?

My mum had vm but swapped to sky 2yr ago, I've just noticed there's a wire coming from the vm box on the wall in my mums front garden which goes next door, it wasn't there a few weeks ago because we took a tree down right next to it. Do I take out the wire and wait for a vm guy to stomp all over my mums front garden and have a word or could I make use of it? lol

I would check with next door to see if they know anything about it - if not get onto VM and tell em to sort it out.

I thought it was standard. One cable tap in the street to two houses ?

Is it coming from the little Gray/brown plastic box they use on the wall?

It's coming out of the brown box which is on the wall of my mums house, I remember they brought the feed across the my mums garden on the install for her but next door is paved so I think they done it as a shortcut, don't think that's on though taking a cable across someones property to feed another, unless I can get her free tv as a bargaining plea?

They should put it back in the ground for it's journey to next door so report to VM
    If at first you don't succeed.....redefine success. . . .

Any cable that crosses one persons property to feed another shouldn't be done without what is
called a "wayleave" - basically written permission obtained - I was on BT for 25 years and these were always adhered to.. obviously
Branson's boys are above these legally binding procedures

    some info here...

I've unplugged the cable, I won't disconnect their phone so they can ring vm lol also if they need it for something urgent can't be that tight, not really the neighbors fault, want to know if someone turns up, I'll try and have a word.

Not sure that actually disconnecting it is either legal or a good idea... IMHO it would have been much better to press it with VM and get a permanent solution..

No, you really don't want to unplug it. They should have sorted the wayleave but IMO you're making problems that don't need to exist. VM would have been happy enough to sort it out if you explained to them that you're not happy and might have even sent you a couple of bob to say sorry.

    Thanks to Zoots

I'm not happy about it because when I was here and had vm I had two phone lines for my business and for 2 years they was on and off, I spoke to an engineer after about the 6th time they had been out and he told me the phone line to the box was too short and everytime someone opened the cabinet it pulled my wire out, I told vm numerous times and it never got sorted, I never got any credit for loss of service and they put a default on my credit file when I refused to pay a months line rental when I had no service. The house is a semi they put the wire through the garden wall, it's got holes in it anyway so it's not damaged but it looks a bodge.

My mum saw someone stood in her front garden this afternoon, it was a surveyor from vm scratching his head he couldn't explain to her why it had been done but apologised and said they will do a proper job of it soon and if she was to go back to vm they would sort a deal out which would be far cheaper than whatever she's paying for sky if she provides a recent bill, he's coming back next week to check. Also the neighbors an arse if it had been the other way round he would of probably ripped the whole cable out chopped it up and probably killed another one of her new trees.

No one was to know the entire story and I accept the comments are understandable but I feel justified, not done any harm and could potentially save my mum a few quid on tv and broadband whether the phone will work is another story lol

I can sympathise with you there, I found the customer service none existent but when they found payment had been stopped they was quick enough with debt recovery. No issues with sky so far apart from broadband being slower.
