How do i find out what network im locked too

Hi Guys
Ive purchased a iphone 4s 32g off a friend.
Im stuck because its a new replacement from apple and i cant activate it because i dont know what network its locked too.
Ive tried voda and tesco and been to my local market store and tried 3, tmobile, virgin and orange but cant get a network to register.
Its doing my head in lol
Is there anyway i can find out the info?
Tried itools and it says country code as 234 (nigeria) hope its wrong lol

Or put one of every sim you know in the phone haha.

Normally says under the rear cover

as you mentioned your using itools disconnect then reconnect the handset 4 times, then click on the button to view details, scroll down and it will tell you

failing that you only have voda or O2 to check haha, i can get the info if you send me imei

Thanks mobile man will send u the imei number when I'm home, friend of a friend sold it me lol
