Default Sat Finders and SKY freeview in Spain.

Can someone tell me which sat finder would be best for my dad to use himself in spain? In the past i have used the needle type ones here in the UK just fine. When looking for one on ebay to buy, there are digital ones as well. Digi ones are about 12-15, and the pin ones are 5-10.

I would have thought they are the same, but does anyone know if the digi ones are better?

Also my dad tells me (now he's not that techie...) that Sky have a new satelite in oribit that means that he needs to re-align the dish to get all channels. Currently channel 5 is a bit ropey, and some itv channels break up after certain times of the day. Probably as the satelite moves out of range of their house.

The live on the edge of the beam I know, but they should be able to get all channels okay. The town they are in is, Mora D'Ebre in Tarragona.

So anyone make any sense of that and tell me when i need to get my dad to do? Bear in mind he's in his 70's and not too techie, he's stubborn and wants to sort it himself. He won't want to get someone in to do it, besides its a rip off as I know it can't be that hard, if its just a bit of re-aligning of the dish is needed.

    Cheers

What size dish does he have at the mo is the first question that springs to mind. There's more than one of the terrestrial channels as well so may just need to channel scan the appropriate frequencies for the others and store within other channels area. I know when I went to cyprus East Mids BBC1 was a no no after 4pm but BBC1 Scotland was fine

Pretty sure my dad's dish is 1m. From reading a few sites and looking at the beam coverage, it seems it may have been just enough before but now that things have moved to the Astra2F sat, he might need a bigger dish.

But as said for some reasons some regional variations are available even when others are not.

In regard to the sat finders, I assume there isn't much difference between a digi one and an analog one.

I used a needle one for mine at home, then used the tv to fine tune it.

My old man used the local installers so no idea what they used sorry.

He cant have a 3m dish where he is so they recommended an IPTV system to him. But as they are not there loads he doesnt want to pay for internet.

    Regards

Where abouts in Spain is he? My ex-father-in-law lives in Southern Spain. He needed a massive dish to pick up SKY. I think it was 2.4m. I have always used the sat meters built into the satellite receivers, as I find them easy to use and quite quick to react to signal changes.
