after having tested out Windows 8 i am 100% sure it will cause me months of headache with people at work if they decide to roll it out, hopefully they will stick with Windows 7 for a good while yet, personally i dont see the need for Windows 8 on Laptops or Desktops as Windows 7 does everything they need it to, tablets and other devices however could utilise this new OS much better, perhaps Windows 8 should have been a tablet only revision or the Metro UI as a turn on/off feature? i dunno

my personal opinion is that its not bad, i am using it just ona laptop, but the problem is there is no gradual move to this new style of GUI they have just gone BANG have this and deal with it, which is a bitch for some of us old school users who love the start menu the way it has been for nearly 20 years, i mean it was time for a change but too much too fast i feel. i am gradually finding little work arounds, but i think i am gonna have to do a complete install again because i retained all apps and installed win8 on here and it seems to be working the system really hard and the fan is working overtime it seems, maybe the laptop needs a complete overhaul to be running this from scratch.

After a week of having it on my PC, I'm saying there are a lot of deluded people posting about how wonderful it is.

I'm not saying it's shit but there is certainly no need to be putting this on your PC if you already have Win 7 installed.

No idea how your IT dept has set up your permissions.

Probably blocked you downloading anything unless logged in as an administrator.

I am in the IT dept and built the comp myself and have no restriction to the internet, error I get is "Activation of app BrowserChoice_cw5n1h2txyewy!App failed with error: This app failed to launch because of an issue with its license. Please try again in a moment. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information." I think it is something to do with the roaming profile???

    Default Windows 8, My thoughts.

Bought windows 8 today on the 14.99 ms upgrade offer, chose to install on USB stick as a fresh install and all went swimmingly, Activated first time no issues. I like the new start bar, could do with a way to choose custom images for the tiles though as I would like to put my bookmarks on there with logos. Takes some getting use to with the new navigation system but I'm getting there.

Received delivery of my new Dell laptop yesterday so after a few beers last night i cracked the box open for a play..... Jeez what a head fuck! I've used XP for a long time so first impressions of 8 are not good. I'm already looking at formatting and sticking Windows 7 on, What were they thinking? I imagine its great on a touch screen but on an standard laptop its completely topsy turvy and very frustrating to navigate, It feels slow surfing the net and in general, I'm a little unsure if its all the crap/bloatware that Dell have stuck on as my 5yr old Toshiba with XP beat this hands down . I've put stardock on for now just to get my head round it as you can probably tell i'm feeling a little bit gutted at mo.....

    Thanks to JONNYG

    No 2 ways about it.

    It's wank on non-touch devices.

I'm after getting a windows phone soon, having played with them before as a few mates have them. Great even on a small device. I have used a few W8 tablets as well and they really do rock.

Laptop, netbook, desktop with no touch input, forget it.

I'm not as anti Win8 as I used to be, but u really need a touch device, otherwise stay on Win7.

I say all this if you are anti Metro UI. What I have realised is myself and other ppl, don't hate windows 8. We hate metro UI. In order to get over it, you need to accept that that really it is Win7. Just the start menu now fills the screen with lego.

Useful lego at that. Live tiles do work, and if you used win8 on other devices you will see that.

He's on about the Windows 7 you are going to install Jonny. Not that heap of wank windows 8.

Windows 7 installed and i'm now happy....
They should'nt be allowed to sell a non touch device with windows 8 on as its by far the worst experience i've had with a operating system, it's clearly geared up for touch devices.
I feel sorry for the people who are less tech savvy who have bought a decent laptop and stuck with windows 8 unless they pay out more dosh to get it sorted!

    Thanks to JONNYG

I installed this today on a dell laptop and it's horrible to use. As everyone else has said on a normal size laptop the tile / metro ui just doesn't work very well.

I'm going to keep using it and see if i can get on with it but i'll be keeping my 'work' laptop with Win7.

Bit of a let down really.
