    Default Facebook/Twitter integration with DF.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^

Is it such a good idea?
I think the site needs a few more worthwhile members, because some periods tend to go a little dead at times - usually when the good weather happens and members have better things to do. Feeling the love for Smart phones and Tapatalk round about now!!

The amount of wallies I know on Facebook or Twitter, who would likely turn into leeches or lurkers are the last people I want to let know about my favorite site on the net.
I'll quite happily invite the 'not-so-wastes-of-spaces' but would I want to fill my Facebook wall up with DF and allow anyone to simply 'Connect' to DF via their Facebook login?

    I'm not so sure.
Weren't we a closed forum at one point?!

We were temporarily invite only, the doors tend to close when there is an influx of dickheads.

Already on Twitter and the forum has been open for over a year now so bit of a moot point, we have a very aggressive spammer trap along with manual stops and the few that get through or are leeches get banned very quickly.

Unfortunately nearly all but a few specialised forums have seen number decline on a par with the popularity of Facebook, twitter etc so we need to attract new members to fill the void of the ones that drift off and can't do this with a locked down forum as it will disappear from the search engines, I agree with a lot of your points and we are looking at having just the first post of a thread showing to unregistered members but the hack needs updating. The VIP area is and will always remain private.

Also easy to vote no but ask yourself what you have done to attract new members/friends? When we had the invite system how many did you invite? Do you contribute to the forum or read then drift off to Facebook to post?

I never really thought of the effect Social Networking is having on forums and now understand that perhaps a little nudge on Facebook or Twitter maybe a good idea, but I'll stay skeptical for now.

/DejaVu is off to spam Facebook!

Not quite sure what you mean the like button has been part of vBulletin for at least 3 years and all that has been added is a hack to also put the button plus tweet and G+ in the first post along with it being above the thread which as I say has been there for 3 years plus.

I've not noticed any Facebook stuff til this week! You sure the the Like buttons have been here for 3 years BB?
If they have, I've been viewing DF everyday for 3 years with my eyes shut! lol

I thought perhaps Rap done it all the other week when he was playing with it all - upgrading I was guessing.

Well I would have to look up what version it got introduced to be exact but it's been there a long time I think it was introduced the same time as the login and ability to join a forum with a facebook account got introduced.

Also this is a moderated forum. Staff should be able to spot any spammers, dickheads, trouble starting and sort it out before it gets out of hand and ban anyone who is here for the wrong reasons.

If the doors are open, and there are links to social networking sites, you will inevitably catch some muppets, but you can also get some good members form time to time.

    I must be anti-social.

I have twitter and gmail accounts but hardly ever use them, and I refuse to sign up to facebook as I really don't see the point. I sometimes use the Mrs' 2nd account to play some games but otherwise I steer clear of it.

The integration of the buttons is a little frustrating to me as they take over the loading of the post and there's a lag while they load here at work (probably a filter on the proxy) and then the post loads below these.

ultimately as I don't use these networks I don't give a toss, but they are taking over my web viewing pleasure!

Also, the hack does not work on the 1st post.

I read forums upside down (newest post at the top, 1st post at the bottom) and the hack forces the buttons into the top post, not the 1st post. If you have never turned this option around you won't notice it, but it's not quite working as it should.

Wonder if it then reports the incorrect post to the social network????

Also, where is the facebook logo hosted? Is it hotlinked? I get an error from the proxy filter here at work on that image which works fine at lunchtime when it is open

Removed the buttons I just really can't be arsed any more, no fucker ever adds anything constructive just don't like it blah blah blah so I think it's pointless me wasting any more of my valuable time on this I have better things to do.
