I know if anyone says they got a windows wifi cracker then they are full of shite, cant remember the reason but they are always Linux based
Iirc the reason is that linux allows greater control of the hardware, I don't think windows supports features such as monitor mode and deauth packets.
For cracking tools, I believe Beini (simple) and Backtrack (more complicated) are the best ways. There was something called Reaver posted a while ago that seems to be a step forwards - I believe this is with the latest backtrack.
Sorry I've never spent more than 10 mins messing around with this so never actually pulled off a hack with either.
Edit: Just read the link and it appears Beini is obsoleted by Xiaopan.

WEP is piss easy.. have borrowed a number of WEP networks and have done it 100% in windows.
WPA/WPA2 is much harder and a lot more time intensive and requires a fookin good PC or at could theoretically take months to get password bruteforced even in linux
There are a few online password calculators where you upload some captured packets from the network in question + keys e.t.c and they calculate the password within 24 hours for about £10 last time I looked.
They are not 100% guaranteed tho and dont offer money back.. as they say if we cant get the password it proves ur network is secure (cos obviously ur only testin ur own network)
P.S in windows there are only a handfull of USB wireless dongles that can be used AFAIK as there as a firmware for certain ones that allows all the extra features normaly only found in Linux.. I googled when I got mine and
got a TP-LINK (from memory WN320 is the model) and this one worked 100% in windows
I was always under the impression that the only thing you can do in windows is run a VM with a linux distro and mount a USB wifi card. That included WEP?
Beinie and Xiaopan have given me some good results with reaver cracking the WPS and in turn providing the WPA key. All be it it can take up to 24hours to complete and not all WPA networks support WPS (most modern home routers do though)
It was a couple of years ago but was deffo 100% windows as the one I remember was just done on a netbook with win7 on it and I wanted to do it in linux but did not have the space to do a dual boot
I used aircrack-ng for windows and used a couple of other tools...
To be fair when I say windows they basically just ran in dos boxes lol
AFAIK you gotta use linux for WPA/WPA2 e.t.c
I remember I had to slow the CPU down in windows power management aswell when it was calculating the packets to generate the key as it kept overheating and shutting down before it finished.. in the end reduced cpu to about 70% and left i running for a few hours and hey presto
For WPA2 networks look into Reaver, uses the WPS exploit.
I have successfully found the key for at least a few networks using this. Pretty quick to.

I really hate this type of thread, it's stealing from the general jo surely that's not right?
If say someone was limited usage a month and someone hacks there key and incurs charges because of this!?! Also what if they dl child porn surely it could ruin someone's life?

"An evil exists that threatens every man, woman, and child of this great nation. We must take steps to ensure our domestic security and protect our homeland." - Adolf Hitler, 1933
Point 1 is a good point.
However I believe for point 2 if they are downloading child porn, they would be doing it regardless of anyone hacking into their connection so I fail to see the relevance.
If you mean the hacker is downloading child porn, then firstly I'm saddened you automatically think this of DF members - I've posts on here of people stuck in a hotel for a few days or in a new house waiting for their broadband to be connected, etc. Second I believe the worst that would happen is the owner of the connection would get their pc's siezed by the filth then returned unless they had also been downloading child porn.

Exactly.. me and my family were involved in a complete house fire about 3 years ago and lost everything for a long time... We were forced to live in a static caravan for nearly a year and in that time it was my only alternative to have internet access which I needed for my business... alternative was travelling about 20 miles each way to a family members house to use internet even if it was only needed for a few seconds...
We also were not in a mobile broadband area before anyone says :-)
I never used the connection for anything naughty although I admit and appreciate using the connection in the first place was very naughty
But after losing everything apart from what I was wearing and losing loved pets (and very nearly my partner) e.t.c I did feel a bit desperate and did wot I did....
Not condoning it
Trust me.. if you ever find urself in that situation u kind of feel the world owes u one lol

Sorry I wasn't calling all would be hackers on df of child porn dl but nonetheless imagine if the victim was a teacher say, and the police knock on the door saying that someone has dl illegal pornagraphic pictures from there ip, and they where genuinely not this could still be seen that the police investigation if it got out could be defamatory to the person career /life just because someone has the access to their Internet!

Further more what's stopping someone on the forum gaining the knowledge and giving it to a friend and so on?, surely that's open for abuse!

So why didn't you just knock on a neighbours door to ask instead of hacking!?!?
