Default Re: Need to access CCTV DVR menu

I remember setting one up like this and it was defaulted to 0.0.0.0

I changed this to a fixed address in the same range as the router, but the config of the menus of course were passworded. A quick fix of address athen I could ping it and access it through the proprietry software. It was a slow process, but if you have the password (I recall 8888 on mine) then you should easily suss it out

Quick update, accessed the DVR with the correct password and the network page was set to DHCP and all other values were 0.0.0.0. I changed this to static with an IP of 192.168.1.100 which is available and inside of the DHCP pool, subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, gateway and DNS1 and DNS2 of 192.168.1.254 (BT Business Hub) but still no connection. I saw the MAC was 00:11:22:33:44:55 so I altered this to a random value and rebooted the DVR, still no connection. I changed the HTTP port from 80 to 8080 which, as expected, didn't help.

I then tried connecting the DVR to my Netgear DGFV338 router, I manually added a record for the fixed IP and MAC address to ensure it was reserved for this device but that didn't help either. I then deleted that record and set the DVR to DHCP, in this mode all you can specify is the DNS, I used the gateway IP for this and still no connection.

I am quite confused, the DVR will not connect to either router no matter what I try, there are activity LEDs on both the router and DVR NIC. I am not using a crossover cable. If I PING the static IP of the DVR I get host unreachacble or time out. Any ideas??

I just changed the IP again to my laptops DHCP issued IP +1 (192.168.1.65) and looked at the LAN table on the router and strangely enough that IP appeared in the table with the MAC of the DVR and the name was 'unknown'. I refreshed the page and the device disappeared...

So it looks like it is connecting to the router briefly the being kicked off. Not come across anything quite like this before.

i read a thread on a cctv forum that loads of people had problems with not being able to get them working, not sure if it was hardware issue or user error but without the box details i think you could be running round in circles.

is it worth opening up see if you can find anymore deets on board inside ?

Might open it up but it just looks like generic Chinese kit so not sure what I will find inside. Something very odd is happening, it should be working fine using the settings I have tried. Will get the box down now and see how hard it is to take it all apart. Do you have links to the other threads mate?

Cheers mate but looks like he is having problems accessing over the WAN, I'm trying to access over the LAN which should be child's play I have setup a few IPCams recently over WAN without any problems at all, starting to think something might be wrong with this kit.

FWIW, I had to access a CCTV system the other day, as they couldn't find the PIN/PASSWORD for it. Well I tried the usual as suggested above, but it was actually 12345678.

    Never know ;-)

From what's been described, I would want to plug a managed switch inbetween and port mirror to something and sniff the traffic just to see what on earth is actually happening.

I don't have a managed switch at hand, will try to pick one up though and try that. I'm glad it's not me overlooking something simple as has been the case in the past!
