News VM Extra HD Box Setup and Router Move.. DIY?

Hi guys, my office is being relegated to the loft to make room for a little person.

I need to move my vm router and install an eBay bought vm hd box. I just wondered if this is something that either I could do or ask the spark that will be doing the electrics for me to do rather than throwing £100 at some grumpy (unt from vm to do?

Has anyone done this? Trust I would need to pay vm for a new card? Is it as simple as just calling them?

    Thanks,

    Devs.

They won't let the Ebay box on the network. As to whether you get it on there some other way or not is your business but VM won't give you a card for it.

Cheers for the replies chaps, appreciated. I've given them a call and after a bit of a kickoff they will shift my router to the loft for free and also provide a new hd box for free. However I need to pay them an extra £6.50pm for the privilege. The guy said that I could cancel the extra box at anytime... Its got me thinking of getting it for a couple of months then can it and see if I can get this other box on someway?? Dpsparhawk or anyone that could help please drop me a pm.

    Cheers, devs

From what I understand they have to link the box to your account and to your card for the box to work in your house. Remember that unlike sky Virgin retain ownership of the V & tivo boxes so any for sale on ebay are potentially "stolen" property. You cant simply stick your own box on... they have to set it all up their end.

Exactly, they will NOT activate a card in a stolen box and since they only rent boxes it is in fact stolen.
While they may not take action against you they certainly will not enable you to use the box, they provide a free second box with the TiVo anyway.
