Pentax has played down a Japanese press report in which its boss is quoted as saying that the company is set to axe Pentax-branded fixed-lens digital compact cameras.
Pentax Ricoh Imaging president Noboru Akahane reportedly told the Asahi Shimbun newspaper that Pentax will focus solely on interchangeable-lens cameras, while future compacts will adopt the Ricoh name.
Responding to the report, Pentax Ricoh Imaging UK's product co-ordinator Stephen Sanderson told Amateur Photographer: ‘The article is part of a wider interview where many issues were discussed.
‘The product branding approach highlighted by the article is one option that was discussed, but the final decision has not been made.'
