    Help Repairing Panasonic plasma TV?

I have repaired a plasma and LCD before. The LCD needed a new inverter and the plasma a new YDRV board.

One of my friends has a Panasonic P42S20B plasma, one day it was working fine, they turned it off and that evening tried to turn it on and there were just 4 flashing red lights. When the power is turned on it sounds like the panel clicks on and off straight away. Nothing is displayed on the screen.

Usually 4 red lights flashing is the power board so I got her a new one and fitted that but it didn't cure the problem, same 4 flashing red lights. Can anyone offer me some advice on what to try next? This isn't my area but thought I'd try to help her out as I have repaired TVs before and this looked like a simple job as others on google have had the same problem and a power board fixed it.

Can't imagine the board was DOA but I don't know how is best to test this.

    Cheers

I've been in the same boat and managed to replace a Video board in a samsung which worked...

I found some great information posted by a member on this forum...

    http://www.highdefjunkies.com/archiv...hp/t-7089.html

    "4 blinks Power SOS P-Board"

I'll also dig around my service manual suppliers and see if I can find it for that particular model for you...

    Thanks to DejaVu

Have you checked any voltages on the PSU PCB?

Sounds daft to ask but why did he not just ring Panassonic first their aftercare is great any problem that is known to be common ie psu or panel failures they will repair for free + a inspection fee

I had a panel replaced on my 4 year old 42" plasma and the inspection fee was £30.

I wouldn't know where to start mate, I have a cheap multimeter I use to check voltages on simple circuits but I have not studied electronics so this board is daunting.

I don't think they were aware of this being an option, I certainly wasn't. No seals have been broken so nothing stopping them from trying still, the set is over 3 years old and proof of purchase was lost yonks ago. I did ask them that much to check it wasn't in warranty before I touched it.

Shame I'm no nearer to you, I'd have had a look for you.

Panasonic won't touch it without proof of purchase, Sale of Goods Act no good without that either. Unless it was paid for on a card, it'd show on a statement.

I read on one site it could be the X or Y board but I'm hesitant to spend out any more on parts. If I knew this power board was working then at least I could rule that out but I bought it from a website as a pulled part, tested and guaranteed to work apparently.

If there's a fault on either of the X/Y PCBs, it may well show up as a short to ground. Disconnect the PSU connectors from each PCB and check for any shorts, the PCB will be marked which pin is which. The vsus voltage will shut down if there's a short on either of these boards. The vsus voltage will be printed on a label on the back of the panel (screen).

It could of course be that this "tested" PCB you've got is faulty. Chances are it came from one of the many scrappers selling them. They have no way of testing them, they're glorified rag n bone men! Where was it from?

    Thanks to Percy Sugden

    I got it from here:
    http://www.nescom.co.uk/

Do you have any advice for a newbie to test for shorts? It is probably best I send her to a TV repair company as they will have the expertise to diagnose more thoroughly. It looked like a cut and dry board replacement. I have contacted the supplier to let them know the TV indicates a fault with the power board even after it has been installed.
