    Default Berocca

I've been taking this evervescent multi-vitamin tablet every morning for a month now, and have to say I've noticed a marked difference in energy levels, attention and memory. Despite my background, I used to be really sceptical about vitamins in general, believing that you could get your entire RDA from 3 well balanced meals a day but now I've been convinced otherwise.

    Any other Berocca fans?

It's decent stuff - my stock levels are low soI need to buy some more. Makes your first piss after drinking it look like toxic water though.

Today's food simply isn't as nutrient rich as it should be to provide you with the optimum amount of nutrients to keep you healthy. 5 a day should be more like 12 to 15 a day for optimum health. So, a decent multi vitamin plus calcium/magnesium and a decent source of omega 3, such as a high quality fish oil or flaxseed/chia seed is usually recommended even for the most healthy.

As regards vitamins and mineral supplements, its widely recognised food state are the best so the body more readily absorbs the nutrients. I'm not sure what's in Berocca but unless otherwise stated they won't be food state.

Its good to hear someone from the dark side suggesting they are of benefit though, even if its made by big pharma.

Yep, I have one every day amongst a whole host of other supps.

Before training I take one of the Berrocca Boost (with guarana) mixed with nitro amino powder and whey protein.....works a treat!

I used to take Berocca everyday and agree it made me feel really good on a morning and gave me a zing! However I went for a pre op back in April before surgery and the Staff Nurse told me to stop taking them as they make your pulse and Heart race and you get no health benefit whatsoever, I did say they make me feel really good and give me a lift on a morning, she said your choice but you are wasting your money, a good healthy breakfast would have the same effect...

Unfortunately the BMA/RCN are in the pockets of big pharma and tend to rubbish food supplements whenever they get he chance. The sad thing is, they don't feel their staff should know anything about keeping people healthy, just trying to make ill people better. Therefore both nurses and Doctors know very little about nutrition as a rule.

If you want to know if your diet is good enough to deliver optimum health then see a Qualified Nutritionist. They've spent at least 3 years studying nutrition and many of them also have master's degrees so they know a lot more about staying healthy than your average nurse or doctor.

I took one once without putting it in water. Nearly choked as the bastard thing effervesced more than a woman when I go down on them. Had to neck a pint of lager to get rid of it...

A real man would have dropped it in the pint, downed it in one whilst throwing a 180 on the dart board!

I think you're better off seeing a dietitian rather than a nutritionist. Either way, GP's are generally not trained to give out advice on diet so always ask to be referred if they feel that's the issue.

I'm full of contradictions e.g. I've not seen a doctor in 8 years, I hardly ever take drugs and I wouldn't want my mum to go on an oncology clinical trial

I just drink my own balsam and a glass of my own piss, or the Mrs if I am empty. Keeps me sweet.

My balsam tastes fantastic when I eat pineapple. Piss don't taste as bad as you would think, a hearty tipple after a few pints of Guinness.

If you've got a ghost in the house why not try replacing your balsam with ectoplasm, I find it's just as nutritious but only contains half the calories.

I've done a bit more research into Berocca and it appears it's a favourite 'pick me up' for students after a weekend popping smarties. In my day we just used another smartie and some booze. I guess that students are more 'switched on' these days. Personally I think our remedy was better.

Would this be the preferred multivitamin supplement? I should start taking some as my only balanced meal is dinner. I have increased my fruit intake but need to do more.

In my opinion no, you need a good quality food state multi. If you Google 'food state multi vitamin' you'll have a good selection.
