What would you do? In event of doomsday?

Right, inspired by the other post - Doomsday Preppers, I wonder what you would all do in the event of a cataclysmic event.

Lets imagine you have no kids, and you live with your partner. Your watching tv one night when the news reports a series of nuclear attacks in major UK cities. London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Manchester etc etc all wiped off the map.

Chaos in the surviving regions ensues, shortly after power fails, and rioting mobs run the streets looting what remains.

What do you do? Assuming you live in an area outwith the effected areas?

First thing I would do is fill the bath and sink and any containers with water. As much as I could get. Then I would stockpile as much food as possible into our car. (assuming a full tank of fuel), and I would head to my folks in Scotland to get with family.

From there we could build defenses and arm ourselves.

What other precautions would you take etc?

Somehow i don't think it would be as easy as you say to just head to Scotland or anywhere else for that matter, i can imagine all the roads blocked or full of gangs. Or have i watched to many disaster movies

i cant imagine it being easy. would get as far as we could with the car then when the fuel ran out we would walk. would take ages mind...

roads would be blocked with cars, gangs roaming, obstacles.... etc

What you describe sounds like the very story line of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's latest film - they are filming in my local town soon and were casting for extras on Tuesday. I chickened out on attending!

Having read The Road I think I would have a nice intimate day/night with the wife and then consume a shit load of pain killers. That would be after I spike the cat's food with the same drugs as they would probably just get butchered and eaten by human scavengers if we were to leave them.

I would also:
- put antifreeze and water in the car fuel tank. Fuck someone else nicking it or the car!
- leave a shit in the fridge.
- leave a sign on the door warning of deadly booby-traps and deceased corpses inside.
- burn off the remaining bbq charcoal I have.
- fuck it. I would pop the pills and then trigger a fire in the house so the whole lot gets a nice send off.

Remember, it's the humans you need to fear most. People will kill you just for your shoes. Or your flesh.

First of all, I would quickly refer to my signed Zombie Survival Guide! (Also available here: http://www.amazon.com/The-Zombie-Sur.../dp/1400049628)

Awesome book.

- Get make-shift weapons together (knifes, drills, saws, hammers, sledge hammer, spikes, etc).
- Lock all doors and windows
- Follow your water storage advice. Move all food and useful clothes/blankets/covers upstairs/in loft. Take a couple of buckets for human waste.
- On the way upstairs for the last time, demolish the stairs with sledge hammer/axe/chainsaw. Zombies cannot get upstairs then.
- Make the loft accessible as our second retreat point. I can knock out roof tiles if we need to escape. (Get down to ground level via the front porch or rear extension).
- Reluctantly put the cats to permanent sleep. Eat their food. Depends on how loving I feel!
- Stay out of sight and be very very quiet.
- Wait it out until it is safe to move.
- Move any remaining goods in to the back of my van and head for any of the following:

RAF Chicksands - USAF SatCom Facility. RAF Sigs/Photo Interp
Army Chicksands - nr. Bedford. Intel Corps HQ, Def Intel & Security Centre (D.I.S.C.) + British Naval Intel Center
RAF Henlow - Electronics - HQ CSE + Provost and Security Services
BAe - Stevenage. Builds missiles and electronic equipment for a/craft
Army Training Regt - Bassingbourn
