How Borderlands 2 fixes Borderlands 1's eight biggest problems

Borderlands was a far better game than most expected - brasher, funnier and deeper than half the shooters on offer.
It was also nowhere near as good as it could have been.
Our Borderlands 2 review will be with you in the next couple of weeks, but we thought you'd like to know about the key improvements ahead of schedule.

Hit and miss humour

Aside from a handful of laugh-out-loud moments, a lot of the humour in Borderlands was shaky, relying more and more on 'wacky' comedy to keep you smiling later on in the campaign.
The writing in Borderlands 2 retains that wonderfully crass sense of humour, but it feels so much sharper than in the first game.
It's witty, smart, and constantly surprising. We've even grown to love Claptrap again.



The whole game looked the same

For those of you who can't be bothered looking at screenshots, let us assure you that this complaint has been well and truly fixed in Borderlands 2.
There are still deserts, but there are plenty of other environment styles too.
We're particularly fond of the way that the day and night cycle changes the aesthetic style of the game - bringing plenty of dark blues and glowing purples into even the brownest of the game's environments.
