Default Girlfriends 3gs wont turn on

    Hey

The GFs 3GS will not turn on. Its was working fine yesterday when it apparently just turned itself off and now I cant revive it. I have tried holding home/lock down, tried holding home/lock down for 10 seconds then releasing lock, tried using tiny umbrella incase it is in DFU mode, tried numerous cables that work on other devices.

The issue isnt the phone as much, as her contract is due up in a few weeks, but the data on it. She hasnt syncd for a few weeks (=months) so she is likely to loose a lot of photos and shit.

Can anyone help here? Any advice, or any kind soul happy to take a look...I can pay of course.

The phone is running ios5.1.1 and is jailbroken...but even a pc (well, 2 actually) cant recognise it...which tells me its not in DFU.

If you connect it to a charger and it doesn't turn on or indicate it's charging and if you connect to a PC and you don't hear the noise of windows recognising the device the next thing I would try is checking the connections between the dock assembly and the logic board. It could have ran out of battery and if the dock is broken or disconnected it would explain why it appears dead. Usually if the battery was dead and you connected to a charger it would indicate it was charging and turn itself on.

    Thanks to evilsatan

Unscrew the bottom two screws and use a sucker (carefully) on the bottom right hand corner of the screen to lift out of the housing.

The connection from the dock to the logic board is in the bottom left hand corner (see the tab marked No. 4 in the left of the pic).

The cable should snap into the the socket on the logic board. It will be obvious once you open it. If it is loose then you simply push it into place.

Just opened it, and the cable marked 4 is seemingly securely in place! Any other ideas?

Well replacing the dock assembly would be my next step but just consider the value of the phone/data before you start as it could get expensive. Has the phone been dropped? I would look for damage on the logic board, check all connections etc. If not the dock assembly then perhaps the battery, I'm not sure if it can power on without a battery connected but connected to a dock to charge.

As the PC won't read it as being connected we can rule out screen connections and power button. It is a power fault so either power isn't getting into the phone (dock) or the battery/connections/logic board has gone. Mobileman might offer a bit more advice.

    Thanks to evilsatan

Thats the thing see. I need to find out how valuable this data is to her I guess.

I'm really not happy digging around in the phone, so I'll await mobilemans reply...in the meantime I'll have a chat with her about the importance of taking care of her stuff

Check the condition of the charge port on the phone itself.
These can get filthy picking alsorts in the bottom of handbags, give it a clean with a cotton bud or cocktail stick and see if it makes a connection to the PC.

This really sounds to me like the battery died and the charger or charge port is at fault or she's got it wet and has not fessed up.

Have you tried forcing DFU Mode?

Plug the iPhone into your PC and open iTunes.
Press the iPhone's "Power" and "Home
" buttons at the same time. Hold both buttons down for 10 seconds.
Release the "Power" button but continue to hold the "Home" button until iTunes informs you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode .

    Thanks to DejaVu

I've cleaned the port the best I can, but don't want to be too heavy handed in case I damage something.

Yes, the DFU mode thing doesn't want to work I'm afraid
