How to do a credit check on a company

As per title. How can I do a credit check on a company. My brother in law is starting to branch out his haulage business to such an extent that some of the people who he is dealing with require credit. Not especially unusual in that field but we are talking about some companies that he hasn't heard of and it would be prudent to check them out before granting a credit line. Anybody know of any reputable company that offers this service ? Can it be done online ?

Hi my work uses creditsafe, I'm sure they charge but its a credible source used daily by our accounts dept

Personally I would also look at the agreement for payment. To make if fair and set and agree terms.
