Tech Is it possible to copy recordings from a V+ hard drive

I've been given a hard drive from a V+ and asked to obtain the recordings from it.

I know the legal issues with tampering with virgins equipment but that's not my problem.

So, I have the hard drive, but it's sata and I only have a laptop with USB, so, if I get a caddy so I can plug it in via USB is there any way to copy the data from it and get it in to a format playable on the PC so I can burn it to DVD?

I think just on scart out.....
I doubt you can access the drive even by taking it out....

Due to Copyright restrictions, copying the contents from the V+ drive to a standard hard drive is useless and the files cannot be played and are likely to be encrypted to the drive.
    Difficult, but not impossible.

Reading up, it seems the only way to export the recordings is through the component/scart or HDMI to a DVD/HDD Recorder - long winded, but works.
Not sure it can be done via HDMI, some places seem to think not - but I cannot see why.

If there is an output, it should be able to be recorded. Not ideal, but it's a security feature of the box. Sky boxes work in a similar way.

Problem is that the box it came from isn't subscribed any more and as far as I'm aware you can't access recordings unless it is active. The person who gave me it doesn't even have a wired up house. I'll see if I can get the whole box and try it at mine since I am wired/subscribed, worth a try.

I'm pretty sure HDMI is disabled for this and yes, normal functions are only enabled by a valid sub.

HDCP probably has something to do with it, there are no such restrictions that i am aware of on analogue recordings though. I seem to remember some kind of restriction (macrocision??) when recording PPV off sky but I was very young back then and didn't look into it.

That was Macrovision, an early copy protection system. .
