Question Neck Pain Relief Treatment ?

Been suffering with my neck for years now.
Since returning to the UK from Germany several years ago I have been through everything NHS available.

    Everything was a fucking joke.

I found this video today and I have every single fucking one of the symptoms this guy describes.

Is it time to see a Chiropractor ?

Do they actually achieve anything apart from emptying peoples wallets ?

My old man's 6ft 8' and has developed somewhat of a stoop with his old age. He was in a lot of pain with his neck and shoulders - he went to one and worked wonders. I think they know what they are doing Not fixed the curvature, but not half as much pain as previous.

You hear horror stories of them walking on your spine etc, I'm sure it's more skilled than that.

I suppose it depends on the cause of your pain. Sometimes its a back problem that can cause stresses in the neck area because your back isn't as flexible as it should be. Most people would benefit from a couple of visits to a Chiropractor if only to unlock the vertebrae that have partially fused together. This can prevent problems later in life. Won't do any harm to have a consultation and see what they say. (">

My problems are as described in the video.

5 and 6 vertabrae worn and trapped nerve.

    Neck pain
Screaming headaches and pressure on eyes.
Pressure in right ear an tinnitus.
    Pain in right arm
    pain in right wrist
numbness in tip of thumb and first two finger tips.

All of this this makes me a short tempered ratty bastard.

Co-codamol 30mg/500mg tablets for pain and headache relief ( although they now take a lot longer to shift the headaches)

Citalopram 2 x 20mg to stop me killing anyone ( these also don't seem to work anymore either)

I find it hard to concentrate on anything for long and if something doesn't work first time I usually get veeeeeeeeeeery angry about it.

Anyone else have this sort of shit or am I a special case ?

I know a few different people who have been to them and been going for years with no change but others who go 3-6 treatments and no further problems. I guess there are good ones and bad ones but yes the wallet emptying does happen.

My question about the failure of the Citalopram not working, how many people have you killed so far?

None as yet but brother in law came very close a few weeks ago, hence me being banned from my sister's house now.

I went to a Chiropractor for about 5 visits (trapped sciatic nerve) and TBH it was short relief BUT I then got recommended onto a sports Physiotherapist by a mate who manages a local amateur football team (all the team go to this guy with aches and strains ect). well the guy bloody hurt me a ton during the treatment but after 3 treatments my trapped sciatic nerve was a thing of the past. Not available nor recognised by the NHS. Check your yellow pages or local paper for similar.

Have you tried fluoxetine if citalopram isn't working? I've read that citalopram reduces the effectiveness of codeine but believe this is the case with fluoxetine as well. Ideally a codeine & ibuprofen mix would be good but you're not supposed to take NSAIDs with SSRI's, might be worth asking your GP if you can have an ibuprofen occasionally when pain is at it's worst.

Personally I think chiropractic treatment is a load of shite and could do more harm than good. You could try osteopathy which isn't much better but you might be able to get that on the NHS at least.

Info Re: Neck Pain Relief Treatment ?

I have always found chripractors to be very effective and have even seen them stateside when I was there.. the symptoms you descibe, especially
the referred pain and numbness in your right hand, wrist and fingers, would seem to be caused by the trapped nerve.

The headaches etc you describe I would imagine are the result of tension and the resultant spasms caused by the nerve inflammation.

IMHO see either a chiro or physio to release the nerve and you're on the road to recovery.

I feel for you mate as I know how debilitating such pain can be.. I suffered for 10 years because the NHS told me they could find nothing and then
I went to a chiropractor, who with the aid of a couple of Xrays diagnosed "Spina Bifida Occulta" which was causing the misalignment of some vertebrae
and 4 sessions had me back to work and now I can go for 2 or 3 years between visits,

I wish you sucess in finding relief mate..

    Thanks to supraman54

Been considering getting an inversion table.

Has anyone experience of using one ie do they actually achieve anything ?

Default Neck Pain Relief Treatment ?

Had one and only used it once. There is a real danger of making it worse ie you invert for maybe twenty minutes then you must come back through horizontal and to normal upright in phased stages so you don't re-compress the spine and pinch the nerve harder.
Always worried the shit outta me so once was enough.
Twenty mins inversion then at least another twenty to come back ..

Once sorted, I agree an orthopaedic mattress and/ or pillow is essential
