3gs wont start after failed update

Been asked to look at a i phone 3gs, it has failed to install io6 fully and now only comes on when plugged into a charger but has no back light on the screen and then says connect to i tunes. Once this message is displayed it then returns to the apple logo. Its never been jail broken.
I tried it in itunes but there is nothing on the screen and the software doesnt see the phone at all, Nor does it pop up on my pc as a apple device.
Any i deas on how to restart/ default the thing. i have been asked if i can save the photos but im not sure thats gonna happen now.

Can you not fire it up in dfu are re-install the firmware?

i tired to put it in to dfu but its not having any of it

Can you clarify whether you failed to get it into DFU mode or the phone is still not recognisable by the computer after entering it?

Only because DFU mode is activated from the bootloader so you should be able to get into it even from a bad flash.

i have failed to enter dfu mode. i know it sometimes takes a couple of goes but this one just isnt playing nice

I suggest you keep trying then. I have never known a phone unable to enter DFU, no matter how buggered it is.

It is really tricky to get the hang of the first few times too.

I agree, I have had some tricky ones but eventually all have entered DFU mode. One had a bad power button so that was preventing it from entering DFU mode.

Agreed, get Redsn0w latest version and follow the instructions to get into DFU mode. However it does say hold power first, don't bother with that, just hold down Home then Power for 10 seconds, then release Power and keep Home held down, you usually hear then windows notification to indicate a USB device has connected by the time the timer counts down from 15 to about 8 seconds.
