    Default Re: Macbook Air won't boot up

    Quick update, the customer gave me permission to wipe the HDD so I ran Disk Utilites, deleted the 'Untitled' partition, set the HDD to 1 partition, Mac OSX Journaled and installed using the original CD that came with the Mac. Upon reboot just sits at the Apple logo with spinning wheel, no 'no access' logo now.

    I reset the NVRAM again and this time must have done it successfully as the chimes now make a noise on boot but still no boot. I reset the SMC following Apples instructions online, no indication it worked other than the power light on the charger went off but still no boot. In single user mode now and going to run fsck -fy failing that will run hardware tests and then have a rethink...

    Boot verbose and I get:
    launch_msg(): Socket is not connected
    launch_msg(): Socket is not connected
    BootCacheControl: Could not create temporary playlist file: No such file or Directory
    BootCacheControl: could not write playlist

    Cheers mate, read that one earlier but didn't try it as I had done a fresh install and assumed those would be ok but will give it a shot just in case

    Ok since running that fsck command I can no longer get into single user mode!! I have quoted a replacement HDD as the SSD is so expensive!

    Think youve found the fault then! How easy is it to swap the hdd on the airs? I haven't really played internally with the new airs/pros

    Looks very easy which I was surprised about! Screws for the base panel, remove that, remove battery, unplug and take out HDD.

    That's apple for you. I have had to order the part in from china but it was only £45 delivered. I wanted to put the SSD in but they are just under £100 and you also need a bracket so just went for a straight HDD replacement.
