    Info Mark my words@ RROD!

Get ready with this new console from nintendo, the chip has been attached to the board in the same way as the xbox 360 one has (and ps3) instead of following a trusted design they used in the older wii so im putting bets on at the bookies now that in 12months plus we will start to see similar problems to RROD

xclamps have been used in other hardware without issues, I thought the main problem was the lead free solder used in the 360 couldnt cope with the heat created by the processor. Different processors, different cooling, maybe even different solder. If it was solely down to the xclamps, youd have thought MS would have replaced them sooner.

Now that the chips are baked thinner they produce less heat .
It wasent the clamps that caused the problems , just the heat and the stupid
design of having a small heat sink on the gpu with the optical drive sat on it .

Plug is right - the lead free solder thing is bit of a myth . You have to use the stuff these days - yes I prefer the old leaded stuff but we use lead free on lots of bga s without issue.

They have to use leadfree for childrens safety. They cannot advertise the product safe for children with leaded solder inside. Its fact that leaded solder doesn't crack under heavy heat load the same way unleaded does. Problem is caused by cracked solder causing a bad connection.

It's nowt to do with kids. All electronic gear has to comply with RoHS/weee regulations, basically electrical disposal law that states no lead as it fucks up the environment and kills fluffy animals... Apparently.
