ebay Anyone had any experience when selling a faulty item on ebay?

I recently sold the wives mobile phone which was dead, it would not turn on or charge and i ended up buying her a new one.

the old one i listed on ebay and i listed it as Faulty - for spares or parts only.
i also added that i offered no returns or guarantee and i chose returns not accepted in ebay.

a month later the prick who bought it sends me an email asking for their money back because according to them its not repairable. hes now demanding his money back and personally i think its a trader whos probably swapped the bits he needs and then trying to get his money back.

if i clearly listed something as faulty and not working, added returns not accepted in ebay where do i stand. ive told him to get fucked (politely) but its really wound me up this.

any advice? personally im going to stand my ground as i sold it as faulty and described it as best as i can.

Hes got no come back. Just message him stating your original listing, no returns, sold as seen. Ebay will support you on this as well.

I've sold a few things, mainly DS's, that have been faulty. Not turning on, broken screens etc and thankfully haven't had any comebacks yet. But because I'm a business seller there's no option to put "No returns".

I've seen a few stories though of people getting refunds. As long as you didn't put something like "turns on ok but screen don't work" and then the buyer gets it and it doesn't turn on then you should be ok. But then, what's stopping the buyer fucking it up even more so it doesn't turn on?

    This is what I mean:

I think you'll be fine with this though mate, it's obvious from his message that he's opened it up and tried repairing it.

@dannyboy that article was wrong in a few places but its pissing me off that they can buy something that is clearly labelled as faulty, i put on the advert that it does not turn on, there was no display or sound etc and that it was being sold as faulty which i thought would be enough. if buyers can just demand their money back if they cant fix a faulty item, why the hell sell them on ebay in the first place? it makes no real sense.

if you sell a faulty item and are 100% honest i dont think they should be able to demand anything, by the looks of it, its a trader thats bought it and then either taken what he needs or decided its too expensive to fix and just trying it on

for a start im sure that the seller by law does not have to refund return postage costs and its up to the buyer.

but say id sold an item on ebay that was totally different from the one i listed = different pics or missing parts etc then i think in that case its the sellers fault and they would be liable for return postage.

but in my case i was 100% honest, i listed it as dead, faulty and not knowing what the problem was. i could not even get into it to take a look tbh. so in my eyes ive done fuck all wrong and they are just trying it on. ill fight it all the way, its not about the money but the principal. if i win it ill donate the money i got from it to any charity.

Your case is cut and dry so ebay should back you. What annoys me is the people who list as 'untested' when you know full well it's been tested and they know it's worth chuff all.

I don't think you have an issue Det. Sounds like you described it to your best ability being an untrained electronics expert.

If I was listing something similar like that I might say:

"This handset will no-longer turn on and as I have no knowledge of phone repair techniques, for me this handset is beyond reasonable repair - but I'm sure it will make for a good collection of spare parts or might even be repairable to those in the trade or hobbyists who have the relevant knowledge."

Reading the link about the Apple ..
I do get fecked off when someone sends me something that is broken or not as described. I only mean when they sell it in good working order, up to now I've never wanted to buy something that's broken.
Normally after you've contacted them they say send it back and I'll give you a refund less P&P, but this really riles me as I've spent money for them to send it to me and then spent money on returning the item .. average around £5 each way, so the seller expects me to be £10 out of pocket for an item that they sold which was faulty. I might as well of walked into the street, took £10 out of my pocket and pushed it down the grid!

    Good luck with it Det.

Ebay have been forced to deal with these properly now so I dont think you will have any problem...

Years ago I sold a Toshiba DVD player as Faulty / Not working... clearly listed as this...
Buyer did a charge back on his credit card so Paypal took the money back and Ebay didnt wanna know.. basically just ignored me and there was fook all I could do..
This was back when DVD player still cost a pretty penny too even knackered ones.

    Fookin hate ebay !

a big thanks to macmilm, hes managed to get my goods back from the ebay buyer who was not even answering my emails, and ebay had refunded the cunt even though i did not have my goods back. how wrong is that?

im going to get in touch with someone over that because i know buyers should be covered but what about sellers too?

The funny thing was (although not at the time)
I parked round the corner on a side street so he couldnt clock my Reg.. incase he needed a slap
I did the deed... was a little rude maybe even a lot rude... walked away feelin like the hardman.. a little bit Jason Statham e.t.c
do the hardman walk all the way back to the car clutchin the bag with phone inside...
Could see the kids and mrs wettin themselves as I approached the car...
When they eventually were able to speak My 10 year old told me the had pegged about 5 clothes pegs to the back of the hood on my coat....

    What a failed gangster....

I can laugh now at least....
