    Info BT Openreach Apprenticeship

    Hi all,

I am starting an apprenticeship with BT Openreach as a customer service engineer on March 4th.

Can anyone who works for them who has done the apprenticeship let me know how it is?

Really looking forward to starting just looking for some info on the training and how you like the job etc as we havnt been given much info yet, just told that we will be going to yarnfield? for a week when we start for an induction.

    Davie.

How did you go about applying for this?

I am half interested in doing something like this. What is the pay like etc?

Also had an email from VirginMedia saying they are recruiting engineers as well. No mention of salaries tho.

You are very lucky Dave. I think last year there was only about 100 apprenticeships given out and over 20,000 applicants! BT is a good company to work for as an apprentice. When you start I can put you in touch with a few ex-apprentices if you like to get some pointers Just drop me a PM.

The induction week is supposed to be a riot. I wasn't an apprentice myself but from the stories I've heard I would get ready for a wild one lol.

Yeah I have heard there was loads of applicants for each post so really grateful ive been given one. Seems like if i work hard and get my head down it is a job for life! Been told we also get free BB, a van, lappy, phone, all tools and uniform provided free.

    That would be cool evilbob.
May take you up on that when i start.

If anyone has any more info on the training and development over the 3 year apprenticeship would appreciate your input.

    Davie.

PS- DJOverdose - My contract says my pay starts at 12,800 for the first year and goes up every year throughout the apprenticeship. Not the best wages but I think its really good for an apprentice job.

Another one you may want to take a look at is an engineering apprenticeship with Heathrow Airport. The pay is also quite low to start 12-15k. But you finish on about 35k.

ive worked with a few open reach engineers. The only complaints i hear from there is the van tracking. However they only do a single AM and PM job and then they are done. I havent met an engineer who hasnt been with them for 10 years +. Embrace it and get excited for all the shit you are going to learn.

    Thanks to Sanj[UK]

I was talking to one of the trainer's the last time I was there. he was saying that the apprentices visit a few times. not too bad there, nice bar onsite .
