    Help Scooter advice

My wife is thinking of getting a Scooter just for her daily commute, what used to be a easy 15 min drive now takes her 45 mins to and hour due to the way a motor way junction has been changed and also the expansion of an industrial estate fed by the same junction..

What are her options engine size wise and how much do you think the insurance will cost.. any other advise would be awesome

Depends when she passed her driving test mate, I think its February 2001 they changed the law. if passed before then you can legally ride a 50cc with no L plates and even take a passenger, which is what I do for work. Got myself an old Honda SH50 with 1 years MOT for £200, £16 tax and insurance was £60. Im 31 and never rode a bike before this so had no benefit of no claims etc. Luckily for me my brother in law is a trained Honda mechanic so any problems im sorted, My insurance was with Swinton insurance. I believe I could ride a 125 also but would need to do a CBT, aything above that is a full motorbike licence. Like your missus i do a 15 min ride to work, the roads I use go straight through the town centre so a scooter is perfect for me, I can skip to the front of queues at traffice lights and the bridge I have to cross that sometimes goes up, I also cut out a whole heap of traffic cutting through a car park that has no access through for cars, I wish I had bought one years ago lol

If she passed her driving test after February 2001 she will need a CBT no matter what, 50CC or 125CC

My 2ps worth would be if there is a motorway junction and Industrial estate I'd want something a bit quicker than 30 miles an hour.

Yeah she will defo need a 125cc the road is only a 7 mile run 40 - 50 mph limit most of it about a year ago the highways agency put lights on a roundabout on a motorway exit, so the traffic just trying to get across the roundabout gets very little opportunity to pull out leading to huge tailbacks

Ah in that case try a few 125 to find one that she likes. I'd avoid chinese copies as they can be a pain to get parts for.

If you are local to London happy to look at bikes for you if you want, give you a hand tinkering.

Don't forget if she is planning on riding on L plates she won't be able to use the motorway I believe. Unless its not officially a motorway and just a dual carriageway
