Default Win 8 upgrade, what's the deal !

Hi chaps I need some advice, I have seen the 14.99 upgrade price for windows 8. All our pc s at work Have windows 7 on them, can I use one of them codes to get the discount? I want to put a legit Os on my pc (for once ) and this seems the cheapest option . I understand win 8 is win 7 with a front end so that's no problem . Will the work pc still work fine ? Thanks In advance

IMO you would be silly to replace a good OS such as 7 with a crappy basic OS such as 8. A few would disagree with me though...

i wouldnt totally disagree with you, i would say if you have win7 i would leave it, windows 8 is ok just a bit of a shit one to get used to for every day use, and i am no power user or anything so my expectations are pretty low, basically if it works then continue to use it, and after about 2-3 weeks of using windows 8 i think its pretty cool, just a bit different. i can see they are really pushing for this to be used in a touchscreen environment. but back to the point of if your pc will run fine, well on the whole it will be fine but you may find that some drivers will not be compatible and you will get errors with some drivers/software. i managed to sort the ones i needed out and got rid of the others that were a bit problematic.

just as a side note, i would check on the price of windows 8, i was under the impression that as of feb 1st it was going to go up in price, but i could well be wrong.

It's not a legit copy if you steal a win7 code from work lol.

I hated Win8 from the leaked pre-alpha to the Consumer Preview. I installed Win8 Pro on my laptop today (via the £14.99+VAT offer, I figure it's not gonna go away so I may as well get used to it sooner rather than later) and it's so awesome I don't know how I've lived without it all this time. The one thing that pisses me off is that my return and enter keys don't work in IE so my posts on places like this will just be one big chunk of text lol... Having a lappy with a touchpad makes a big difference though I imagine. The Win8 Drivers for it have special Win8 gestures so if I want to pop in a menu from the side I can do it by sliding on the touchpad. I can also scroll the metro interface with two finger swipes. It gives it that touch screen feel but without the touch screen. Really don't think I'd be able to get on with it if I only had a mouse... And again, the no return key in IE is really pissing me of now lololol

    Thanks to Mr.James

I can see it might be pretty cool for a touchscreen but for a regular lappy/desktop even for free I would avoid at all costs. When I mentioned I would rather have XP, I probably would even prefer Windows 3.1. No wonder it is so cheap. It's Total Turd !

I'm quite a fan of Windows 8. Seems to be lots of people in here who can't adapt to change. Im assuming that everyone runs Windows 7 in classic mode so that it looks like XP? We are getting the VIPs at work hybrid tablet/laptops at work with it on. Once you've got past all they hype about the tiles and no start menu then its all good IMO.

You are only using the code to get the offer price so can't see it will affect the windows 7 install as its a licence that's already been purchased

Cheers for an actual answer lol . Everybody so keen to put their opinion of windows 8 over That it never got answered lol . Well here s my opinion of it . It's windows 7 with a pretty (tile) front-end. If I can get a genuine Os that really is pretty much the same as my dodgy windows 7 then for 14.99 why the heck not. Cheers

windows 8 is shit don't do it.

I lost all my apps and emails in the upgrade as have others looking at google.

Just Google windows 8 shit before you hit the fire button.

Whilst you have a reason to dislike 8 , i notice u say upgrade , from experience upgrading any os is shit and a fresh install should always been done . So far from what i can see its the same as 7 maybe a bit faster but with the metro business instead of a start button . (Both easily added or removed)

    But thanks for your input

...and it looks like my return key issue is actually to do with IE10 and the way this board works... http://www.themalibucrew.com/forums/...g-ie-10-win-8/. Anyone else have same issue?

Will I upgraded from XP to Win8. The speed alone is great. I have got my start icon back which is a great help. Only issue is I need a metro 8 icon, so I can switch back and forth.

Note I don't use the metro that much.

I'm kinda liking the start panel of metro now... I think of it as a full screen start menu, and for some reason, thingink of it in that light makes it easier to live with lol
