G5 Imac screen problem

Hi guys

Do we have any Apple G5 techys?
I bought this as faulty, but never had an apple mac before I think i'm out of my depth.
The screen seems fine but the display is all tiny colour bars going in a diagonal direction, i figure its the video card but are these built on to the mobo?

I was kind of hoping is was a seperate board i could replace.

any pointers would be appreciated.

everything's built onto the board in these, i bought a motherboard only when these were new and ran it for a while as a full machine.

Get a display adaptor for it (I can't remember exactly what port it is) that will confirm / deny the video card assumption

if it is, you're probably screwed however if the fault in particular is a known and common one, sometimes apple will replace them anyway. I've had iBooks replaced way out of warranty because of similar faults.

What g5 is it mate intel or IBM ?

Iv got one mate , infact iv got 17 1.8 intel core 2 and 20" g5 pwr pc cpu

Yep the g5 is a g5 and the core duo is a core duo

All g5 iSight aer intel. And ambient light are IBM .

Any hoo to the op if it's an IBM g5 check all the ecectolitics for bulging.

G3/G4/G5 are the CPU types if its a g5 it has a PowerPC cpu. Fact.

I know what your saying mate the g5 relates to the IBM CPU , but if you open the info panel thing on an early intel iMac it says g5.1 or somthing similar .
the easiest way to tell on 17" is the ram door is on the bottom of the intel models . At the change year they both look identical and the model numbers are confusing to say the least .

The first intel mac has the internal name iMac 4,1

the last g5 iMac (also known as G5 iMac (iSight)) had 2 processor speeds and the code name Powermac12,1.

Later intel macs had code names iMac 5,1 6,1 7,1 etc but none are called "G5"

No iMac marked "G5" has an intel CPU. None.

The first intel mac shares the same casing as the last g5 but isn't marked as such.
