NO, Plain & Simple.unless you have a touch screen, i used it & took it of within 2 days.
If your kit supports it then install Win 7 and VMWare then run Win 8 as a virtual machine. I have OS X, Win 8, Ubuntu and Win XP as VMs on my laptop and PC.

win 8.1 is due out end of the year and apparently free to win 8 users ( not sure what versions though ), 8.1 will hopefully allow boot to desktop, although I don't know if the start menu will be replaced, but a 3 doller app from the market will make win 8 look and feel like win7, also win8 is faster and smoother as repoted by many forum users,
like evil said install VMware and give win 8 a go first ( depending on your system spec you might not get the full performance win8 has to offer), and take a look at the app which will give you the start menu back and allow boot to desktop
other option is if you got a second spare HDD install win8 on it
I already have a paid copy of win8 pro im just waiting to get a new 256Gb SSD to install it on
I have a friend that's used win 7 since it came out, and now hes using win 8 for at least 4 months or more, he says once you know where everything is its fine
its like anything you just need to get used to it

if it aint broke.....
I stuck with XP till I needed to upgrade to use SSDs and so on, and I am finding the ride smooth, with an OS, if you dont have any problems, stick with it. Bit like a woman.

ok so on different note the guys above i use Windows 8 and quite like it, if you are happy with 7 then i cant give you a reason to upgrade but i dont think its as bad as people make out
You know he grew up as a little shitspark from the old shitflint and then he turned into a shitbonfire and driven by the winds of his monumental ignorance he turned into a raging shitfirestorm. If I get to be married to Barb I'll have total control of Sunnyvale and then I can unleash the shitnami tidal wave that will engulf Ricky and extinguish his shitflames forever. And with any luck he'll drown in the undershit of that wave. Shitwaves.
I wouldn't go back to 7 any more. Thinking of upgrading my work PC to 8 now too.

Yeah I'm sticking 8 on one day this week on the work machine too, had a play with one of the leaked 8.1 betas but it was early and to be honest shite - all the graphics were corrupted on my VM. Still no Start elipsoid on that, but have heard what they're bringing back isn't the Start button that everyone nowadays knows though!
Windows 8 is definately better on touch screen displays. It's bloody fast though. Seems a lot quicker even than Windows 7. That said - I'm not upgrading to Windows Hate just yet. Maybe once 8.1 comes along.

I use it on all my PC's now find it quick and easy to use after not liking it the first time i installed it. Could do with them removing the Desktop as its now a useless function for me.

Installed it on 2 machines and both never needed any more drivers installing after the initial installation.
Together with Windows Classic Shell installed Windows 8 is pretty good.
I'd have to agree, I've been running 8 since the preview. Took forever to get used to the mouse gestures but having a tablet with touch now makes it come alive. It is quick to boot and a slightly smaller footprint than 7 but I do find it crashes more frequently than my 7 system used to but not enough to make me switch back. I like the way my preferences follow me (via my MS account) to any new install, it's got a way to go but you might as well be part of the journey
I took the plunge and put win8 on this, my main desktop at the weekend and must say i like it, hower i am not using the silly metro interface at all, i use startisback to give me back my regular start menu as well as boot direct into desktop, so you wouldnt even know it's windows 8. So why bother? Well I find networking is much quicker on win 8, such simple stuff like being able to pause file transfers is brilliant, and the task manager is light years ahead of windows 7's one.
I was very hesitant to install it until now tbh, but after recently buying a win8 ultrabook and finding that startisback then i'm a convert now.
Not noticed any performance drop in gaming, and I find apps seem to load a bit quicker tbh, ooh and startup/shutdown times are way quicker than win7.
