Default Diet advice - gluten and dairy free

    Hi

Trying to go gluten and dairy free but I am really struggling with what food to buy

Today I had a load of gluten free stuff delivered by asda

Impressed with the cornflakes and really love the soya stuff instead of milk

Haven't tried the bread yet but not very impressed with the prices of the stuff

Anybody else dairy and gluten free?

Struggling with what to cook up in the evening as well

Normally in the day I would have a piece of toast in the morning

Tuna sandwich at lunchtime followed by either weatabix or cornflakes with milk for pudding

Grapes and apples in between and 2 litres of water a day

    Go to http://www.coeliac.org.uk/members

You can sign up for free and get a look at their directory. It lists all the foods available in supermarkets that are gluten free. You may be surprised at some foods. Tesco and Sainsburys have biggish 'Free From' ranges. Not sure on dairy free, but sure I have seen some while looking for Gluten free.

This is quite a good cookbook http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooking-With...1802050&sr=8-1 . My wife is gluten intolerant and I've found some of the foods to be nicer (Tesco free from pasta especially).

Dude, unless you have a medical reason to go gluten free, don't. Without gluten, bread, pasta, cereals, all have no taste.

We get a lot of punters staying where I work who have gluten free diets, for one reason or another. We have to bring in gluten free flour to make bread and pasta and the chefs hate it. I've tried it and it really just makes things that normally taste good, taste like nothing.

If you want to continue with it, then hats off to you

    How wrong you are mate.
Some may remember my son being diagnosed with coeliacs recently and I was questioning it. However, we have decided to follow a gluten free diet for him, early teens is very important re: growth etc. I have researched and read up on it a lot recently, so he doesn't feel left out food wise There is loads of foods out there gluten free. Cereals - try Morrisons or Asda own make crunchy nut cornflakes - they are gluten free, so are loads more. basically non processed foods are more likely to be gluten free, but you can get currys, pasta sauces, and loads more. It really isn't that hard to eat pretty normally, by making substitutions to be gluten free Fuck me even M&S have gluten free sausages, high meat percentage as well.
BTW its a known fact that many athletes go gluten free for a period prior to big events so you may feel a lot better for it. Good luck if you go for it, if you have any questions I will try to help. I have the coeliacs directory at home, and it is very enlightening as to how much is out there.

    Thanks to rmj2663

Not sure about other supermarkets but my local Waitrose has a small but fairly comprehensive "Gluten free" section.

Pop into your local Waitrose to see if they have the same as it may offer some inspiration?

Google Paleo recipes, the paleo lifestyle is gluten/wheat free in itself and you should be able to find plenty of recipes.

    Paleo diet? Seriously?

Yeah, lets all eat like humans did when they expected to live to 30

Tesco have an own brand range of dairy free foods, yoghurts, milks, cheeses etc. which I think are very good. You probably won't like dairy free cheese if you're used to regular cheese though.
