Cars Reverse Switch - Requirement for MOT?

My Audi A4 is booked in for an MOT on Tuesday and I've just noticed that my Reverse lights are not working.

Checking the bulbs and fuses, they are fine, so can only guess that the Reverse Switch on the gearbox is knackered.

I'm going to order one this weekend, but can't see it arriving before my test date.
Looked around online and some places seem to think that the MOT centre shouldn't fail the motor for no reverse lights.

Seems odd to me, is there any truth in it? Are reverse lights part of the MOT standard? Tried to check on the MOT Manual posted here beginning of their year, but looks like VOSA's pulled it from the internet.

No it should pass, unless the rules have changed.
I had a micra that had faulty reverse lights and it passed the mot.
Ooh, ooh, ooh, the funky gibbon.

    Thanks to funkyg

I still haven't put my motor through the MOT yet as I'm still concerned it'll fail, although I cannot find any details in the MOT guidelines about the reverse lights needing to be working!

I've decided to fix it before it goes through anyway.
So far, I've replaced the Reverse Light Switch, changed the bulbs, changed the fuses. I've tried bridging the black connector that connects to the switch (in-case the one I bought is also faulty) But the fucking things are still not playing ball.

Could I have a wiring problem? My circuit tester does sweet fa when I connect it to the black connector's and the battery - or even shorting the connector. Bugger all! Almost like this connector might as well be pulled out completely -but it's attached somewhere real difficult to get too.

What's the easiest/quickest way, bodged or otherwise to get my reverse lights on when the car is in reverse?
Can I wire something directly from the battery to the switch? Does the switch carry live or a earth? I'm guessing a live?
I've no way of knowing as there is no power getting to that part of the car for some reason and it's nothing obvious.

Could there be an inline fuse I've perhaps missed someplace?
I've tried downloading the Haynes manual for the car, but the only one I've found so far is a half hearted attempt and has loads of information missing. Besides, I'm shit at reading wiring diagrams anyway!

I fucking hate fixing cars, but refuse to take it to a garage to be ripped off.

I'm 99% sure reverse lights are not part of the MOT (they never were when I was in the trade).

I've PM'ed you a link to the MOT Manual.

In the old days the power would come from the battery through a fuse down to one side of the switch.

Then when reverse is engaged it closes the switch and the power goes to the bulbs and then down to earth.

But in today's world of ECU's and body control modules, I'm lost!!

I worked out I have power to the fuse box, but from the fuse box to the switch connector, it must be borked. I might just make a bridge from somewhere else for the time being (after it's been through the MOT).
