All you need then is just a thin client.
I haven't run untangle for a while but I remember some viruses would still slip through. Also was disappointed when they dropped Kaspersky as their AV provider.

Also found the free modules were good to show the box was working but for real protection you needed the paid modules. (webfiltering/antispam/virus protection were the main things I was after and checked out).

If you're going to run an esxi server you could also run untangle on there. They don't recommend it, but unless you are going to be using anything like voip which is very timing critical, it shouldn't matter.

Avast free is great once you turn of the sound notifications and pop ups.

It's made better when you install the pirate language pack and turn it up load when you boot up.

Kaspersky Internet Suite ... 3 years, no resource hogging, no attacks. I get it free through my bank though so if you don't want to pay for it, then carry on...

i have tried a few over the years, but for free i stick with Avast,
Turn off Animation as it can use up resources,
Once installed it does the rest.

Hmmm... People running MSE should take a look at this:

Avast seems to be doing the job for me. AVG seems to be a bloated mess in recent years. For a netbook, I'm using Panda which seems nice and light.

I use MSE. It did have issues with a version on Windows 7 I was "trialing" so I had to put AVG which was fine. I used to use AntiVir and had no issues with that. Which? magazine give MSE one of the top marks so can't be all bad?

I use MSE on my Revo but it's allowed me to be riddled with viruses. Malware Bytes rounds loads of stuff that MSE had allowed to be installed.

I'm not sure what to put on my micro server. I can put McAfee VirusScan Enterprise on it for free but not sure what to do for the best.

Tried AVG, MSE, NOD, Panda, Kaspersky, Norton (haha) and McAfee in the past, but always find myself back at Avast.

Current version (Avast Free 2014) is the best yet.
Swear by it and recommend it to all my customers.

Minds it's own business, checks stuff it's not sure of (previews in a 'auto-sandbox' before letting loose on the system). But generally minds it's own business.
Not had a Virus in almost 4 years now...

    so +1 for Avast.

Mse fell down the tests recently but I find it lighter than avast. Avast seems a bit overkill to me but is decent, it messes with some Citrix VPNs though so I can't always use it. When I am supplying a paid for program I use Eset smart security. I try to pair the av with malwarebytes pro.

Thing to note, mbam v2 is in beta, once released they are moving to an annual subscription model but will honour lifetime licences so get a legit licence ASAP

    Thanks to evilsatan

I've just tried Avast bases on recommendations but it's not compatible with server 2012. Any other suggestions?
