iPhone 3GS IOS 6.1.3 Base 6.15 No Service

Never really played with an iPhone before...so bit of a newby.

I have got my hands on an iPhpne 3G with IOS 6.1.3 Baseline(?) 6.15 on 3 which is saying No Service.

Via Settings>General>About>Network it says "Phone Note Allowed".

I have Redsn0w b3 and know my bum from my elbow, but do I need to downgrade it, jailbreak it then upgrade it to get the phone bit working again?

UPDATE - IMEI Isn't blacklisted and think it's a 3G not a 3GS (Model is MC637B/A).

That is a 3GS mate. Is the phone unlocked by the network? Is it a Three phone? Did it work previously?

First thing I usually do is enter DFU mode and restore in iTunes to rule out software, this will erase all data. There is a common hardware fault with the 3GS:

Phone is not unlocked by the network which is indeed 3, actually it didn't work before 6.1.3....

I bought it off a friend and it auto-updated to 6.1.3 when i turned it on...he did mention that it had no service.

Have just tried the iTunes restore as suggested...it's currently running.

6.15 is jailbroken baseband(actually ipad one) so you will need to rejailbreak and run the cydia Ultrasn0w Fixer after flashing new software is done

Did all that...now the phone won't activate :/

I suspect it was jailbroken and I didn't know... :/

Yes defo three...fella even left his old 3 sim in it.... and when it was working, it said in the About section.

Done some digging...it appears there is an iPad baseband on here - 6.15...

Going to attempt to re-JB with b3 but this time undo the iPad baseband then try the iTunes restore to unJB.

So I grab US Fixer then US?

Again newby alert - will I be able to use iTunes/Appstore if JB'd?

Also...will I only be ablt to boot from redsn0w?

Just a thought...but my SIM from my 3 android is the same size as is required physically - should i be able to just shove it into the 3gs and it work (in theory)?

Ok pretty sure this is correct , evil can prob confirm as its ages since done anything with 3GS

Factory restore 6.1.3
Jailbreak with redsnow and reinstall iPad baseband at same time even though its on 6.15 already
Install cydia
Install usfixer and run
Restart and activate
That should be job done

Have just installed USFixer and US...just tethered booting to see if it works... :o)

No joy...everything successfully installed. Can't see where to "run" Ultrasn0w like you said, apart from that did as instructed and still "no service"

no need for US fixer anymore, normal US supports IOS6 now

just did a 3GS yesterday with 06.15 baseband and 6.1.3 IOS, Virgin sim working fine (its locked to o2)

I haven't actually had to work on an iPhone 4 with iPad baseband, just 3G/3GS and I then downgraded the baseband but unfortunately you cannot do this. Try as raelmadrid suggested and uninstall US fixer and run the latest US.

Did that first then tried with USFixer.

have you tried the sim in another phone
