Info - Your daily comute

I am thinking about moving house and probably areas.

I've had it reasonably good in the last few years and been able to live near my work at times. At the moment my daily commute is about 7 miles and takes me anywhere from 25 to 40 minutes. Both going to and coming home from work.

My new commute will be about 33 miles and take from 60 to 90 minutes.

This question is really only aimed at people that drive to work, but how long and how far are you driving every day to get to work?

I worked out that in my current car a full tank of petrol might not last we a whole weeks drving at 66 miles a day... this is bothering me a little lol

My current commute is 10 miles but its an easy drive before the traffic builds up and takes around 20 mins. My last job used to be 10 miles and could take an hour in the traffic. I hated it and couldn't wait to get a new job. Plus I found my car was uncomfy when sat in traffic for an hour.

I'd only commute that far if the money was much more than i'm on now or if I had lost my job and had no choice. I'd probably consider a new car as I only get 250 from a tank as well so by changing to a diesel the money i'd save in fuel would pay for the new car.

I used to travel 90mins each way to work but after year had to give it up as such and extra drain on your body after working all day, leave in dark home in dark every day pretty much regardless of the time of year :-(

My commute is only about 5 miles there and up until last year took me about 15-20 mins in the car to get to work. Less coming home as it's usually late.
I use the tram now though, and only take the car when they're not running (stupid cold weather lately) or if I need to be going elsewhere after before or after work.
I much prefer the tram and the walk to & from the stations. I tend to drive as little as possible these days and walk wherever I can. Even get on/off the tram a station before/after just so I can get a stroll in.
I don't envy you a 66 mile drive commute.

Currently get the Tube, 50 mins each way.
Previously however I used to commute to Milton Keynes. Was a 65 mile trip each way.

I could generally do it in around an hour to work, but could take anything from 2 hours to 5 hours back (M25...)

My work did however allow me to change my working hours so I started early and finished early along with the odd "Working From Home".

33 miles is each way. Basically from SE London to NW London. Perfect I know...

Public transport would take over 2 hours... My working times should mean I can do it in just over an hour though in the morning at least.

I commute 55-60 miles each day....60 if I decide to take the scenic route. Have been doing this for the past 8 years.

Got a focus diesel and I probably spend about £40 a week, less if we are car sharing. Mind you it's mostly motorway driving, m6 followed by the m55, or m65, m6, m55.

I do 25 miles each way. Normally 45 to 50 minutes going and 40 minutes coming back.

Rather than commuting further for more money I'd gladly work closer for less. However, I've been sharing the driving for a year and can have a week of being a passenger for each week I drive.

38 miles each way, 60-90 minutes each way

To avoid the M25 nightmare I leave the house at 5.30am and leave work at 6-7.30pm. Makes it a loooong day.

Luckily I can work from home, and try to do so once or twice week.

We have just bought a new house that going to mean my commute increases from 25mins to an hour ish. I have done it before. After a couple of weeks you hardly notice. I have done it to live in a nicer area where there is a great school for my lad and my folks are round the corner, means we can get some kind of social life back. Plus there will be less dick heads knocking about.

"my commute" is a nightmare living in Cardiff and most of my work is devon/somerset so a 300 mile commute lucky i have company car and fuel!!!

I drive 7 miles each way. I'm lucky if I get 25 MPG in my car. It takes about 15-20 mins.

Been lucky last 8 years, 10 mile round trip 10 mins there 15 back on average.

44 Miles each way, takes about 1:30 in rush hour, 40 mins on a weekend or off peak. Mostly all motorway M62 > M60 stationary for a good chunk each day and certain points, almost without fail.
It's not so bad, entertainment is a bitch after a while you burn through albums, one way and that album is done I listen to audiobooks and stand up etc to mix it up a bit. The worst is when you're fucked from work and you still have a trek to get home. Google music has helped having all my music available in the car.

The benefit is when I have a site to go to further afield it doesn't seem that long to get there and back, a trip to Birmingham for instance feels quick now.

Oh and when you are on the road that much (almost 8 years now) you see how poor the standard of driving is from some people, you can spot the muppets a mile off.

Currently about 8 miles to work takes about 24-40 mins depending on traffic. Used to commute into London took about 90mins door to door. Had to get up at 0530 to get a train where I could get a seat and it cost me £3500 for the privilege. Did that for about 4 years, before I fucked off to NI. Cant believe I didn't do it sooner.
