    Games Up-scaling on HDTV

    All,

Recently bagged a SNES with some classics. I am using the composite into my Samsung, but not surprisingly the picture is terrible.

I have to admit, I have not looked to see if the TV has any up-scaling features (If it did I would expect it to be auto..), but is their any devices out there which can help? maybe some pass through to HDMI?

I am interested in getting the Retron 5 when it comes out as it deals with this (apparently), but for now I need a solution before I go blind.

Doing some interwebbing, it seems I am onto a lost cause here.

I think I might buy a mini projector, something like this: http://www.ebuyer.com/279271-optoma-...ojector-pk-120

    Thoughts/experiences?

get a scart lead and also do the 60hz mod on the snes, you'll need to be a bit nifty with the soldering iron for that but I managed to botch it when I was about 17 with tandys 30watt iron and no experience

I ran my NTSC snes on my plasma a while ago and it looked ok, but to be honest it looked better though the xbox emu over component.

The Samsung does have a funky digital scart thing. Ill but a scart adapter and try that before the 60hz, but to be honest I have been looking for an excuse for a portable projector.

Try on a smaller telly? Just the other day me and my sister were remembering how bad vhs looked on a 40"+ telly.

Unfortunately with our recent move we now only have two 40" (they are dirt cheap now..).
I (I say I, I mean my Wife) recently gave my sister-in-law a 19" Samsung that would have been ideal.. No chance of getting that back..

I do have a mini 7" LCD TV that I am sure has inputs, I imagine it will look awesome on that, but I cannot live with that for ever.

sadly they never look that good on LCD/Plasma screens, Xbox with emulators is your best bet for picture quality on old consoles

even if you buy a projector, if your source image sucks, its just going to suck bigger.

We had a spell of playing retro games on my mates PC and a projector and they looked great, big fuck off pixels but for me it just added to the experience.

Think I might have a go at that Mod, seems like a decent challenge for my skills and cheap.

hi, done a few mods over the years on consoles and just wanted to point out if you do the Mod make sure you discharge the console when its unplugged (just turn it on and you will see a red flash on the power LED) before you open it as its very easy to blow the internal fuse if you dont

Yeah, the console when delivered it was the first thing I did and still had the charge!!! God knows how recently it had been powered down, but it was sat in the box for 2 weeks nearly before I unpacked it.
