I'd imagine you get what you pay for and an over subscribed pay server will be just that for £4.

A well set up server is harder to overload than you would think , if you have good network latency and loads of ram .

Remember the card doesn't answer every CW request .only the ones that I'd doesn't already have cached .
so more peers can actually make the server more stable if the hardware hosting the card don't bottleneck .

    Thanks to plug1

Plug1 is correct, if there are enough cards in the system the server will always respond in good time. RAM and CPU really dont matter with this. 1ghz atom does the job. 1 sly card can serve about 9x different channels at one given time. But if its the same channel it can do it all day long for a thousand people with decent bandwidth.

Regarding the pairing, I believe it will only effect HD channels. Sky are giving Thompson box owners a free upgrade forcing the new pairing system for HD users. BUT if you have an SD multiroom box I don't think they can do much.

Toysoft is very knowledgeable and makes his own custom images for linux boxes. It saddens me what DF has turned into. Someone makes a knowledgeable first post yet he is slated for not introducing himself. It was not always like this toysoft. I apologise on behalf of the site.

bit of an update: ive spoken to a lad who is well in the know and he has told me that they have tested the new cards in their server and they work fine.

If the box has not had the soft update then its fine. If you have been forced a box upgrade from the thompson then you will have the new software and the new update on the card. It does not clear any premium channels.

I guess only time will tell.

What are you all talking about? Happy to google, but I'm not sure where to start.

I have an unsubscribed HD box doing nothing at the moment, is this a good start?

A new card that's never been in a newer, and updated box. It's confirmed that premium HD channels are not clearing on updated box/card pairs. This will effect everyone sharing Sly cards eventually. If you're just sharing SD channels you'll keep it for longer, but it's going to happen.

Real ITK's on are already working on this and have been since Viasat was hit with the very same thing. Now that it's hitting here there'll be more working on it soon. Every revision of every popular crypt has been made shareable and I'm confident this will be no different.

I'm in no need of an introduction mate, though some will have found that lesson informative. The fruits of your labour were all on display at Bowlers on a Saturday morning, trapsing around there when I was a nipper with my old man. I've still got my old season interface, Phoenix and Elvis!
