sad Nds/Sky rolling out their new card pairing method

    Stolen from another forum:

If anyone is thinking of spending a few hundred quid on a satellite linux box or one of those openboxes and connecting to a pay service then i would think again.

Last summer sky revealed plans that they would be changing the way they were going to be pairing their cards which was due to be rolled out early in 2013 and its happening now ! Already boxes in certain areas are affected (mainly amstrad receivers) with the loss of all HD sports/movies and any other premium channel add on,the only channels remaining are the family pack channels in sd format.

The new pairing method is working because any emu available today cannot read the new boxid that cards are using now after an entitlements update thus rendering all premium hd channels defunct on servers.

Payservers no dought will already be trying to find a way round this but i do not think its gonna be a smooth journey for them,it was a long time coming and payservers are mostly to blame for the change but the revenue sky are losing must be massive.

Anyway it was just a heads up incase any of you were thinking of spending your hard earned cash only to find the channels you thought you would receive are in darkness.

Was only time I suppose. If I am right this will make it near impossible for someone to set up a card share server.

How does this affect sites that stream the Footy etc, if at all?

am I right in thinking tho, that receivers like Vu+ solo(clones) or whatever that run Enigma2 can still install plugins like 1channel etc and view through the box?

Viasat have Brought it in last year well the same sort of thing and as far as I know it can't be shared I know the HD deffo can't be shared. Yeah the plugins like 1channel will still work as it's got nothing to do with 963 as the boxs can still be used for euro sat. As for footy streaming it won't make much of a difference as most streaming sites don't use sky cards.

Well there is always a way around things. Time though it will take to be public domain.

    Yes they will.

I'm pretty sure it only affects card shares as the card details streamed over the net to your box will not match the box id of your box. Only the subbed box paired to the card will work.

    It was too accesible.

I still won't be paying though, as I don't watch anything else apart from Sport... It had a good run....

I dont think this new method works in the old Thomson HD boxes, which is why Sky are contacting owners to offer them a swop!

I wonder how long they will give the Thomson users to accept the free upgrade before they force em by turning off their cards lol
Guess I chose the wrong time to buy my VU+ Solo which is due to arrive by Monday lol ;-)

It's still a great receiver mate and all free to air stuff is going to be about.

At the moment we just gotta see what happens I suppose.

I also read that most are finding it is when people are taking the card out of cccam and updating in sky box that it is killing the HD stuff but those that have continued to update through cccam are still fine !!!

I have a Thomson HD box in the cupboard... Can I get it replaced, or is it now worthless? It isn't currently paired with my parents card as the PSU went and I promised to replace it (about 2 years ago) and they have been using their Sky+ one since...

I got one as well m8....I think the offer is only for people who are currently known to be using one by Sky on their database.

Its always worth a try tho!! Its a non starter for me as I only blagged a 2TB box for £45 late last year!!

Didn't know about this. Will hold off grabbing a VU+ box until things settle down. Can see the VU+ boxes becoming hard to get if things kick off in Korea too!
