Recommended newsgroup providers

Hi all,

I'm looking at getting myself a new newsgroup provider. I've been with Astraweb for the past 3yrs and after many DMCA takedowns and incomplete files i'm looking to switch.

I recently had a free trial with tweaknews and from what I used I was impressed.... I know a few members on here use them and would like to know your thoughts.

Basically what I want is:
Safe, reliable, fast & SSL newsgroup access.
Slow to no reaction to DMCA takedown requests.
Complete files
Good retention (1000+ days)
Good price...
...pretty much in that order too.

I've read a few things about dutch providers and people recommending to use pre-pay cards & only buy month by month access, so any information on which ones to avoid would be good too.

Is their VPN service any good? That would be something I'd use.
I've used giganews in the past and was pretty happy with it.

yeah there's loads of countries and the speed is great. They also provide a client called vypyvpn that sists in system tray for easy on/off

Use it for piratebay / kickass / and the American TV on demand stuff

Not all react to dmca as quickly though - some have automated take downs others are still manual - i use usenet server and tweaknews. Stuff stays on tweaknews longer than usenetsever - I can guarantee that as I've seen it myself

episode 3 of game of thrones went up on nzbcave and by Monday lunchtime it was down for everyone, did not matter which provider

Perhaps for some content but not others then ? I grabbed some stuff off tweaknews recently that was missing on usenetserver . I did the same with a movie about a man who dresses like a bat that was nowhere to be found a while ago .

Tweaknews doesnt accept Paypal anymore and I had a nightmare with paying with VISA - in the end had to go back to newshosting...

I'm still with Astra and use Blocknews as the backup server. One way of combatting takedowns is to use something like SickBeard for TV and CouchPotato for films - that way you've got more chance of it downloading before it's taken down.

To give an idea I bought a 100GB Blocknews account and hace used 71GB in almost 18 months so it's not bad!

In a year I have used 6.10270 GBs, that's mad! Didn't realise it would last so long, only bought it to cover the corrupted period in Astras retention.

I grabbed it Monday night. I haven't had any issues, so much so that I don't want to mention my newsgroup provider. I get everything no problems so far. The Dark Knight was my biggest hassle, but I got that 2 weeks after it leaked.


Although I do use a blocknews account with it.
