Only in Britain….do we use the word “politics” to describe the process of Government. “Poli” in Latin meaning “many” and “tics” meaning “bloodsucking
    creatures”

I remember some company trying to sell them remote control plugs for "switching off" device and the plug used more in standby than the device in question.

Well if it's night storage heaters, then yes he would need Economy 7 or 10.

Electricity prices are an absolute piss take, and as Bald Bouncer said most of the big companies pay little or no tax in this country. Still we got Maggie to thank for that. Still at least she will be nice and warm now.

I prefer not to switch items off completely. You may have noticed that it's at switch on that most items fail. The sudden inrush of power into the cold components of the power supply can cause the components to fail prematurely. With the item constantly on or in standby the component temperatures have stabilized and everything will usually run happily for years. Certain components when cold draw more power which can cause this premature failure if subjected to cold start ups on a day to day, or several times a day, basis. (">

I am paying £100 combined Gas/Elec and that includes £15 Homecare for the Boiler.
Gas/Elec from Eon and Homecare from British Gas.

We have a 3 Bed Terraced House. Recently took advantage of the free Loft Insulation from British Gas. We could not have the Cavity Wall Insulation as it is a Victorian house with no Cavity.
The windows are single glazed sash windows which we cannot afford to replace at the moment but we are sealing some of them up.

There is only two of us and we work long hours.
The Boiler comes on for 40 mins each day to heat the water.
Hob and Oven are Electric (Hate the Electric Hobs).
I have my NAS box, Mac Mini, Airport Extreme and an Airport Express on all day every day.
I am not one for leaving lights on in other rooms, was brought up in a North East Council House so I was taught the proper way!

At the moment what we are putting in is just enough for us two.

Should also mention that in the Winter Months we bought a couple of Delonghi Oil Heaters (2kw) and they are superb.
Because we generally camp in one of the lounges, rather than whack the heating on for the whole house, we just stick one on in the lounge and then one in the bedroom on a timer for when we goto bed.
