Small world mate lol. It was his dad who originally advised he didn't take the amputation option because who knows what advances could be made. I know he used to have a 'party trick' of stubbing out fags on his dead arm which was a bit weird but then, he was always a bit of a nutter lol.

If your going to get a Bionic arm get one with a small hand as it will make your nob look bigger.

until today i had never heard of brachial plexus so have no idea what it involves
what i can tell you about is amputation i had my right hand fingers and most of my palm amputated back in 1982 because of an accident at work
i am now left with most of my thumb and the heel ( if you can call it that ) of my palm
as far as phantom pain is concerned i get non but i can still feel my fingers 30 years on but not so much nowadays

from what youv'e wrote your talking about having your arm amputated because of nerve damage in the spinal chord and you say you are pain free
i can't say if having your arm amputated would cause phantom pain because in my situation the damage was in the hand and nothing to do with nerves so they basically got rid of the damage and once the healing process had took it's course there has been no pain phantom or otherwise
you really do need to speak to people with the same symptoms i can only tell you of my experience of amputation but it's was for different reasons and not as severe

good luck with your choice it's something you really do need to think long and hard about

    Thanks to cosmicma

i cant really offer any advice, except that is a really sad sad upsetting situation you need to put your self through, and i hope you figure the right lane to go down!

you have your family to support you regardless of whatever happens so discuss the options with them and if its what you really want, then research and ask tons of questions!

The dangers of bikes, i know of many people who have come off bikes, either just come off or worse been hit, and thats it, backs are knackered for life, arms, legs, even deaths!

Sorry to hear about the situation and hope you make the right decision
