Server is up and running with Xen installed. Only two drives in it at the moment until it's fully set up. I'll keep you updated

    Hi guys,

I need to upgrade my hard drives this week. Would you go for WD or HSGT 4TB or? I will be ordering by Wednesday.

Does anyone know of any good deals?

Not a bad price, apparently the HGSTs have a lower failure rate

Mean time before failure is 114 years on the WD reds and WD have always produced reliable drives... I've read the HGSTs are double that but their DeskStar drives were nicknamed DeathStar drives because of how often thy failed. I've had a good few of them fail on me so I'd jut never go back.

Part of me thinks it's just luck of the draw though. If you get a dive that's packaged right and taken care of in transit it will last a lot longer than one that's been banged about.

I came to the exact same conclusion. I had a few DoA's with some HGST drives that had a silly high MTBF.

The only thing I can say about hard drives is to never trust them. Even if it's spanking new always make sure you have a backup of the data you would miss if it packed up

Not for at least five years; especially now UnRAID runs both VM and Docker flawlessly

Maybe you should look at consolidating all but one of them onto one of these bad boys:

You know he grew up as a little shitspark from the old shitflint and then he turned into a shitbonfire and driven by the winds of his monumental ignorance he turned into a raging shitfirestorm. If I get to be married to Barb I'll have total control of Sunnyvale and then I can unleash the shitnami tidal wave that will engulf Ricky and extinguish his shitflames forever. And with any luck he'll drown in the undershit of that wave. Shitwaves.

I was coping OK with 12TB to begin with. Not sure I could possibly fill that much, but I'd give it a good go. 67TBs is insane.
