Default I have a CCNA i am suitable for this position

Been helping conduct some interviews for a position at work. loads of people saying they have their ccna, amongst other things. They talk the talk on the phone but when it comes to the interview a single technical question has caught every fucker out so far.

If you have a ccna and do not know what subnet to use for a 1000 hosts then change career.

    Thanks to Sanj[UK]

I know that's 255.255.252.0 for a total of up to 1022 hosts. Any jobs for someone without a CCNA? Only joking - I know you work with Cisco kit which I only have a rudimentary knowledge of.

I know my way round Cisco`s HP`s etc etc i could not answer that of the top of my head i don't need to know that's what my sub-net calculator is for, i think i more fitting test for a potential applicant is a piratical exam, i remember once applying for a PBX technical support position, i was given a list of question most of which i did know but some real stinkers, and when completed he asked me how i managed to get them all correct my answer was i phone the manufacturer, his response was good because being in tech support is not about knowing everything but having the ability to find the right answer..

    Thanks to Tim.Lad

Our procedure is, that after 2 months into the trial period you have to give a presentation on what you know about the individual networks + support + hardware info for the area you look after.
