Asda slashes Wii U price again
Basic and premium packs now available for £149 and £199
Asda has introduced its second Wii U price cut this year.
In March, the retailer began offering the basic white model online for £199 (down from £249) and the premium black one with Nintendo Land for £249 (down from £299). It has now cut the price of the two models by another £50, to £149 and £199 respectively. It's unclear if the price cuts will be permanent or a limited time offer, as the retailer says it's currently offering 33 per cent off the price of all Wii consoles.
Earlier this week, shortly after Nintendo missed its annual net profit target by 50 per cent, president Satoru Iwata explained to investors why he believes Wii U sales have failed to meet expectations since the console launched in November.
"We have not been able to solidly communicate the product value of Wii U to our consumers yet, which has been a grand challenge for us," he said.
"Some have the misunderstanding that Wii U is just Wii with a pad for games, and others even consider Wii U GamePad as a peripheral device connectable to Wii. We feel deeply responsible for not having tried hard enough to have consumers understand the product."
And this week it came to light that Nintendo is sending messages to Wii owners via the WiiConnect24 service stressing that Wii U is a brand new console and "not just an upgrade".

Amazon and a few other retailers have followed suit.
This is amazingly similar to the original xbox's situation, the consoles weren't selling for shit, then a huge price cut and a hack appeared virtually in the same weekend. Didnt really help that much though as they xbox was still a very distant second to the PS2.
