Advice How to play Wii ISO's from USB ?

    Hi,

I recently bought a Wii from {{909}} and I've softmodded it.

This is my first time playing with Wii mods, other than the very first wii hard mod. I'd like to play full iso's from USB drives but I have no idea how to proceed. I'm guessing FAT32 is no good to me due to the file size limit ?

Ideally I'd just dump a downloaded ISO onto the drive, insert it in the wii and play, via a channel/app i'd guess.

Some tools were installed as part of the mod pack I used, some of which appear to be loaders but they don't seem to do much and some don't even start up properly and just bounce me back to the wii system menu.

If anyone could help me get set up that would be great.

    thanks,

    malty

I used to use neogamma R8 to launch iso's from a USB stick or HDD that I'd filled using WBFS manager

I use Wiithon on Ubuntu for this. You need a drive formated in the WBFS format. You then use Wiithon to transfer the ISO's across to the HD.
Not sure what OS your running at the moment, but I am sure there are similar progs for Apple and Windows.

I use wii flow on the console and wbfs manager on the pc to load the drive with games. Has never let me down. Plug in the drive to your PC open wbfs manager, select the drive then format to wbfs, add the Iso and send to drive. Make sure when you plug it into the wii that its in the right hand USB port when looking at the rear panel.

I always used FAT32 most the files ended up smaller than the restriction limit, but the larger ones just split over two files.

Can now be used on NTFS drives (no filesize limit) with a WBFS Folder. Far easier to use that it used to be.

Thanks everyone. It was the ISO in a folder on ntfs I was hoping to achieve but my efforts to just drag and drop it into a folder USB://wbfs have been fruitless so far. I'll have a look around the sites you mention.

Also, which loader would be best for these ntfs stored ISOs ?

    Cheers

when you add the ISO to the HDD with a WBFS manager it will strip all the garbage data, which is usually a massive % of the ISO, so your desire to just drag n drop wouldnt be as fruitful.

I use wiiflow on my wii, but I think they are all pretty much on par now, just choose the one you like the look of the most.

    Thanks to {{909}}

Wii flow mate, install the forwarder channel too so it sits on the front screen rather than having to navigate through the home brew channel everytime

wiiflow doesn't seem to run, just dumps me back to the system menu - neither do two of the other usb loaders that came as part of the pre built mod pack i found. I'm guessing it was out of date or just plain bad and I should stop bing lazy and install each manually.

What does run is the Neogamma loader and I managed finally to get an iso to work, which was transferred to a sandisk usb stick formatted to wbfs all with that wii backup manager.

Thanks for the help everyone. Got there in the end, just need to tidy up everything and fix the loaders that don't work.

I use Priiloader and force WiiFlow to run on startup. If the kids exit WiiFlow, it just re-runs.

The original Wii Menu is only available on the Priiloader menu on mine which also helps stop the kids ruining the softmod by upgrading stuff.
