Ghosts ? Do you believe in them ?

So what do you think ? i am having some very strange things happen in my house in the last few months and have started a blog to record whatever happens in the future ? here's the contents of my 1st blog post .... it is a bit long but there's a few things happened


Hi .....
I have started this blog to make a record of strange things that seem to be happening in my house .

We have lived here for around 11 years and from the 1st weeks after moving in my wife Mel and myself have had our thoughts that everything is not quite right here although we never seemed to talk openly about it as not to alarm my son Jack who was 6 at the time .

I will start from the beginning when we bought the house .The previous owner were an old couple .she had died (in the house ) some years before we moved in , and after the old man died (in the house ),we bought it from the relatives .The house needed complete renovation ,we fitted a new kitchen and bathroom and the electrician who was working there had what he called "weird thing " happen in that a hammer he was using upstairs went missing ..... and he found it sitting on the floor in the middle of the kitchen downstairs ? ..he was alone in the house at the time so it was impossible for anyone else to have moved it ?
This was the 1st of a few things that happened around this time like when my wife and her sister were in one evening and they both swear they watched a vase move across a table in the front room ,also my wife had put a wine bottle in the fridge and when she returned to the kitchen it was sitting in the middle of the floor as with the hammer previously ? We would often be sitting downstairs and hear footsteps walking across the floor above .... It was a little strange but it never really bothered us too much and seemed to slow down to the odd night a month in the following years .
In this time our daughter was born and and things seemed fine ......That is up until the start of this year !
My daughter Grace who is now 7 woke up screaming like a banshee i rushed into her room and she was wide eyed pointing to the end of her bed shouting tell her to go away ! A few nights later i was asleep and was woken by the sound of heavy footsteps in the hallway outside the bedroom door ,as i awoke i saw a shadow pass the door from the direction of Jacks room ,thinking he had gone to the toilet i waited for him to return past the door to go back to bed ..... he didn't .... so i got up and checked the toilet and also went downstairs looking for him ? no sign ,I checked his bedroom and he is in bed fast asleep ! Then 2 weeks ago Grace came to our room at around 2.am asking if she could sleep with us as someone was talking in her room ......Mel said its probably Jack on his x-box , but she said no they were whispering in her ear !
So it continues last Friday i finished work and was walking down the path to the front door and i saw a figure go past the door and up the stairs as we have a large oval in our door it was pretty hard to miss .... again thinking it was Jack i shouted up to him as to what he was doing ? no answer but i heard his bedroom door close ,( his room is in the loft so has a fire door that makes a very distinctive sound when closed ) . i go upstairs to his room and find no one there ! i checked the other rooms and the house is empty.
Now we get up to yesterday ? Grace Mel and myself were sitting in the front room and Grace pointed to the ceiling and said whats that ? we got up to look and our light is one of the type that is a long bar with spotlights coming off it .... and wedged between the bar and the ceiling was some monopoly money that Mel and Grace had been playing with earlier in the day ! Only i could reach it and Jack had not been home all day ! and i didn't put it there !
I have to say i am not a great believer in ghosts and ghouls but i can't explain a lot of this away ? The only thing that seems to to be a constant is that we have again been having a lot of work done in the house ? in the past few months we have had new windows ,a front door ,a full new central heating system and are now in the process of having a new kitchen ?

We spoke to the old fellow next door who knew the previous tenants and he said the guy was so tight that he would never have any work done in the house and even sent a kitchen back that his wife had ordered ! Hence i suppose is why the house was in such a state when we bought it .....Maybe the old bugger is unhappy with us for doing the work there ? i don't know .....but somethings not right !

The goings on do sound odd and pretty much defy a logical explanation but I just can't see that "spirits of the dead" can come back and haunt people.

Maybe he's unhappy? You said it yourself mate, "Hes DEAD" how can he be doing anything if hes dead, some people are believers, like yourself Id say, you dont know what to think but you are a believer as you have now begun to convince yourself of it. The builder probably took the hammer downstairs made a brew and forgot he left it there, your wife probably drank the wine People can do silly things in their sleep too you know. I once got so pissed that I got up in the night and used my £800 Gibson Sunburst classic guitar as a urinal!!

If there was such a thing as ghosts then im sure someone would have irrefutable proof to show us by now. Same with God, people who believe in god but refute Father Fucking Christmas make me laugh or the tooth fairy its the same thing.

Oh and for the record NoI dont believe in ghosts I think there is a rationable explanation for everything

I believe totally in some 'unknown' paranormal/ ghostly/ poltergeist energy and don't mind saying it, although it's true definition is hard to really put a name to.

I'm one of 6 kids, and when I was about 8 or 9, the family moved to a post war terraced house, well it was actually 2 knocked through into one as we were a largish family. Up to that point, I had no idea about anything to do with 'ghosts' or the like, I didn't read or watch anything remotely related to that sort of phenomenon let alone understand any of it.

When I started my new school, some of the kids would come round as there was an old bird aviary in the loft and we would play up there. I recall one or two of the kids mention that the house used to be lived in by 'Fred the ghost'. Never really thought much of it at first. After a while though, every now and again when I lay in bed, I would feel what felt like a finger or something tapping me on the back of my head.. I also experienced a lot of nightmares at the time as well.

This went on and I mentioned it to my mum (dad was away with the Army usually) and she said not to worry as she'd put in to move elsewhere. A few months after we'd been there, I recall one night I felt this tap on the head and within a second, one of my sisters screamed from another bedroom. We all rushed in and her bed cover was swaying all over the bed (she had her hands on her face as she was crying), then the cover just flew across the room.

That was the last night we stayed there and after school next day, we had moved to another address on the next street. It was only when we were older we found out (Mum knew at the time) a previous guy who'd live there was in fact called Fred and he'd hanged himself in the loft. Hence some of the other parents and kids in the area had heard of these rumours about odd going ons from previous tenants who'd also experienced similar.

We walked past the place for months after on the way to school and it was always boarded up. Don't know what happened after that as we'd been posted elsewhere.

I can't abide the TV 'reality' shite like most haunted etc. but I definitely know what I experienced wasn't made up in my head and so do my family.

I couldn't care less if people snigger etc. And I don't know what label I could put on it, but deffo something unexplained.

When i was a little boy my parents didn't have much money so i slept in the same room as them, but in my own bed, i was lay awake one night and i saw my 5 year old sister who had died a few years earlier at the bottom of my parents bed looking over them, she was there for what seemed like ages, i was frozen with fear for whatever reason, but it was as clear as day and no one will ever convince me otherwise, that maybe i was dreaming or that it was a trick of the light etc, no chance i know what i saw, i've never seen anything since that day, and if anyone ever mentions ghosts in a sceptical way, i always remember that incident and think to myself there must be something, or what was it i saw?

To be honest I think even the stout believers will not like that show, its just a scouse bell end talking bollocks. I did look into it properly when doing my degree years back and went as far as reading what A. Einstein said about it, he pondered that if energy cannot be created or destroyed then is the energy from spent humans changing into what is floating around manifesting itself into something or other. But that was many many years ago, but I summise that its not changing and it is infact used, it is used by the things that eat us i.e. worms/plants and bacteria if we are buried or turned into heat if we are cremated and then released back to the planet.

I mean seriously somebody tell me on here what their defintion of a ghost is, herein lies the problem the definition is an impossible one, somebody give me their honest definition of a ghost and I will give an honest reply to what I believe

My mother had the ghost of a gypsy fortune teller haunting her. When we were kids she would entice us into her room, late at night, so we could press our heads against her bearded pelvic wall. I never did see or hear anything, but it was difficult to hear anything over the buzzing of my mother's 'magic jazz baton' that she said enticed the Gypsy out of her 'cave'.

I like to keep an open mind in these things... but without any tangible evidence its hard to believe. The main problem is that paranormal experiences are a very personal thing that doesn't translate well to 3rd parties.

For instance, I once knew three really geeky lads... serious science freaks. Everything was based on logic. Anyway, they had a "ghost" experience (all three of them saw it together). The story was a real classic Scooby Doo type encounter... it was so atypical that its not even worth repeating here. My point is though, these were the type of guys that you would bet money on being the last people on earth to really believe in ghosts... and yet they are all Adam Ant that they saw something that I find hard to believe.

Another thing I would like to say, is I know from person experience people sometimes do trivial things they don't remember. For instance, a while back I witnessed MrDg take a phone call while he was doing some DIY. In mid conversation I watched put down his screwdriver in a tissue box (as in he dropped it in the top opening). After the phone call he resumed his DIY and obviously couldn't find the screwdriver. Being the horrible cow that I am... I said nothing and just watched the episode unfold in front of me. To cut a long story short, he eventually located the screwdriver but to this day he is convinced I had hid it on purpose and flatly refuses the suggestion that he did it himself. He did... I saw him do it.

So, anyway back to your blog. Taking your incidents at face value, the Monopoly Money and the person in your empty house does indeed seem fucking odd. However, I would like to make some points. Firstly when you make a blog like this the temptation is to add lots of things and make more of something than it should. For instance in normal day life things get mislaid all the time... only the other day did I put the tea bags in the fridge for some fucking reason. I would stick to the main (really bizarre) events that have eye witness accounts etc.
Also you've got to take into account the actions in others. The very process of keeping records of what is happening usually means that more things get mentioned... because people are now purposely looking for abnormal type things and wanting to attribute them to the paranormal. You need to try and weed out the crap and stick to the interesting stuff.... quality of events rather than quantity is the key... in fact the more stuff you list, the less people actually believe.

Finally, if shit is really happening as you say then get some CCTV setup. There is a good reason why "ghosts" aren't shown on CCTV... and that's because virtually every action is something to do with a real person (which explains most of the mysteries).
In fact you definitely do not need an exorcism but you do definitely need CCTV.
Why? Because it will either stop your weird happenings dead (because ghosts are scared more of CCTV than any vicar)..... or you are going to be very rich indeed with your CCTV footage!

I don't believe in ghosts and have never had an encounter of any kind. It's usually only the believers who have them.

If they are trapped souls then why do they wear clothes? Also they are either physical objects or they are spiritual objects, which is it? Surely if they stroll around in hour world for us to see they must indeed manifest as physical objects so how can they walk through doors etc and yet still move objects the two are not compatible.

I'd agree with you, in what is the traditional 'belief' of ghosts, but after my experience, I do believe there is 'something' that we aren't (yet) aware of happening at times. Personally, I feel it's something to do with the interaction of a living being and something like a form of energy otherwise unknown. You hear of quite a few instances of strange goings on with people around rather than such things like CCTV footage.
