The missus bought the first 3 of the Cherub series by Robert Muchamore for my lad (12). Getting him to read anything has been an ongoing battle, but he is flying through these. Yesterday I asked if he fancied playing on Black Ops. "No, I'd rather finish my book!!!".

My daughter is a bit younger but devoured all the Walliams books for kids and is now reading a load of Shrinking Violet books.

It tends to be boys 10 - 24 who are most resistive to reading.

The Time Riders by Alex Scarrow series probably would appeal to him.
