Home made electric bike? WTF!

Was shopping at Tesco on the weekend and came across this little beauty. Quality of the photo sucks as I was laughing so hard and trying not to let the owner see me take the photo.

It's a home made electric bike. Strapped to the crossbar is an array of what look like moped batteries. There are lots of bare wires everywhere on this thing. It looks like the owner could be in the Darwin Awards if it were to rain. There was another one behind this one. The icing on the cake for me was that they were using a bungee cord instead of a chain and just used that to strap the two bikes together!

Still 10/10 for trying.

That does look a bit Heath Robinson. But it obviously works for him. Bare wires with low voltage systems are not going to give him an electric shock in the rain. More likely to short out against something and burn his house/garage/shed to the ground. Of course if he's in the house at the time he could still qualify for a darwin award (">

The power unit (batteries, motor, etc.) is shaped like a v-twin engine, and the bike is reasonably fast. Handy for a jaunt across town. (">
