    Advice Birds nesting in eaves

Anyone know if there is anyway I can move or get rid of some birds nesting in the eaves of my house? Anyone I can ring to rehouse them or something?

Or even better how long it will take for the little fuckers to grow up and fly away so I can patch up where the nest is?

Wake me up pretty much every morning at around 4am at the moment and there is bird poo all over the wall and window under the nest. They are starting to get on my tits now - the poo I can probably deal with for a while although I can't open the window and if the weather hots up this will be a problem. Getting to sleep after 12 and being woken up at 4am every morning is starting to get on my nerves a little.

Have had a look on the rspca website / rspb website but can't really find any information on what to do for the best / if I just have to wait it out.

Pretty sure House Martins (they usually nest in the eaves) are a protected species, if eggs or young are present you may have to wait until the young have gone before removing the nest/s

Got this from the RSPB website
Should I knock down house martin nests before they return next year?

You don’t need to remove a house martin nest because the martins will re-use it when they return next year. You can remove nests if you need to do maintenance work or painting, but it is illegal to do this whilst the birds are building or using them.

Thanks for that - I did have a quick look on the RSPB website but could not find that - Not entirely sure what species of bird they are although I had thought Swallows (fucking noisy ones!), as I thought will just have to wait it out til they have gone then patch up the boarding where they have got in.

Will move my bed and stuff to the other side of the house until they have gone I guess.

Definitely house martins. We have some at the back of us in the eaves. They look a bit like swallows but without the streamers from the tails.

They return to the UK in April and stay till sep/oct.

Wait until they leave and then block it up. Hopefully they will be gone by early July.

Housemartins usually nest outside (on the eaves) rather than in a hole. They build a nest made of mud rather than straw / twigs I'm not saying they won't go inside, but it's definitely not the norm.

The only way to stop them coming back would be to net up under the eaves.

Can't you just leave them be?
    They are not hurting anyone.
I'm quite happy to see the housemartins appear on my eves each year, its a sign the weather is warmer.

I can until they go this year but the amount of crap down my wall and window + the noise they are making no I can't let them come back next year

Will get a pic taken to show where they are / mess they are making

This happened to me once, i decided the right thing to do was wait for the fledglings to leave the nest, then patch up the hole so it wouldn't be a problem again.

I was sat on the toilet one day during this and i could hear a scratching coming from under my bath, next thing a bird comes out of the gap between the bath and the wall and starts flying round my bleeding bathroom, my cat hears this and is going apeshit trying to catch this bird and all i wanted was to have a crap in peace lol.

Anyhow i opened a window and managed to get the bird to go out.

Once i had repaired the hole in my eaves i haven't had a problem since.

Why? This thread is 8 months old. Birds will have left a long time ago...
