    Default Combi boiler help

So, this might come as a stupid question , but I do have reason.
We used to have a house with coal fire which heated the radiators, etc. so we have never experienced gas and a combi boiler. So please excuse my ignorance.

We have a Worcester 28cdi rsf combi boiler in our house. The heating of the radiators is set to come on between what seems likes ages. Possible 6am to 8pm. Which seems a lot.
So, how can we set it for shorter time to save money? (Electricity and gas together is much more than £200 a month)
In the summer when it's going to be warm (hopefully) we will just need hot water and no heating. How do I do this? Do I just switch it off, (there are loads of knobs though) or will something weird happen if I do the wrong thing?

Sorry for the silly question. We have no manual for it , and even if I did I probably still wouldn't understand exactly what I had to do to run it properly.

Do you have a thermostat in the house anywhere?

If you do, and it's good to, then set this to a reasonable temperature, such as 18 degrees.

I don't think there is a thermostat anywhere in the house.

Here is a pic of the boiler , as you can see by the pics this is what it's set like all the time.
We have been in this house a few months now so I'm hoping to sort this out and understand fully how it works

Sorry if these pictures are too large, I'm using tapatalk

Turn the middle dial all the way to the left and you will have no hot water to the radiators. (that dial controls heat for radiators, the one on the right is heat for taps, and the one on the left is on/off switch)

Also if you mess around with the lcd panel and get it to off, that should also stop heat to radiators.

Instructions for your boiler - http://www.worcester-bosch.co.uk/cac...nued-05-07.pdf

You can add a thermostat and it isn't too difficult. If you buy one a Gas Engineer should do it for you, if you aren't confident, for an hours labour. I would get a wireless one as the transmitter can be installed on a short cable next to the boiler.

Or... Just set the timer as you wish with the instructions above. I personally wouldn't mess with the radiator or HW dials on your boiler. I had a 35 CDi one of these. It was rather volatile.

    Thanks to Geko

So is this all I need to do?
If I leave the other things the way they are, it will be ok until I'm ready to put it back on?
    Thanks

That should work, but sounds like Geko's had problems doing this so the thermostat idea may be better.

Yeah the timer is set to run "ONCE" and I bet it is set Sun-Sat 6-8. Need to set the timer to OFF.

If set to once, it will come on at the first 'on' time and go off on the fourth 'off' time. If you change the controls to twice it means it will come 'on', on the first time, go 'off' on the second time, come 'on', on the third time and go 'off' on the fourth time. Just change the on/off times to what you desire. During the summer months just select off. Remember this only controls your heating. Your hot water is instantaneous.
TAR seems to be a decent bloke!
