ebook Nook Question - Books added on SDHC

    Bit of advice required.

I've got a nook simple touch on the way and I'll be rooting it to put the android kindle app on. A while back I was given a file with some ebooks in kindle format (mobi). My intention is to put these on an SDHC card (also on order) and view them through the kindle app. Is this feasible? Further to this, all of the files are in zipped folders. Will I need to extract all of the contents into individual folders for the kindle app to be able to view them? Inside each authors archive there are folders for each title with (title).mobi metadata.opf and cover.jpeg files.

I expect there's probably an independent app that also allows mobi files to be read?

    Thanks for any advice.

Yes - I use Calibre to manage the books on my Nooks SD and it works a treat

Try fbreader for mobi files if Findle fails. There are other mobi readers too.
I used NookManager to root my kid's Nook. Worked fairly well for a week or two but then got stuck in a flashing screen loop. Reverted back to the B&N firmware for epub only reading and not played with it since TBH. Calibre will convert anything you can't find as an epub.
I only tried a few titiles but once rooted you'll have 2 devices when the Nook is plugged into a USB port - the Nook itself and the sdcard. I just dropped all the mobi stuff I wanted into the Books folder of My Files on the sdcard. fbreader can be set to look at any specific folder you choose. Just point it to My Files and it should find them - think it looks at sub-folders too. If not, point directly at the appropriate folder where your books are stored.

Kindle will handle it's own library on the sdcard when you send stuff to it.

    Thanks to chizh

I've not rooted mine yet, but any files I've copied onto internal memory have just worked. They just show up in the Library.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I was going to root mine & my dads but I think with hindsight it would be best to keep my dads as is and I'd possibly root my own. Many thanks.

I rooted mine the day it arrived. It's nice to have web browser and stuff and the norefresh apk works fairly well although drops the graphics to 2 bit so not good for photos etc but fine for reading the web. Nice to have eBay on there and iMDB etc. and using HomeCatcher (I think that's what it's called) helps if you use a non-standard launcher like I do (Go Launcher works quite well but it's down to personal preference). Battery hasn't been affected too much and the Kindle app works well. There's a modded version on XDA Devs for the Nook that is a small improvement over the normal Android one as it can use the hard buttons if you want and the refresh is improved although I'm using the B&N reader more often at the moment.

Great stuff, thanks very much. I ordered one for my mum last night as a little pressie, then my folks will both have one to take on holiday on Friday. I'll leave those untouched for the time being at least until they return from their hols.

Currys have them for £29 delivered ATM if anyone's still interested. They had stock last night.

Argos also have stock at £29.99 but for delivery only. That's how I got mine. Ordered at about 5pm - delivered following day.
