Wifi direct is just a standard that works over normal wifi though isn't it? Either way it's a cheap move to make you re-purchase perfectly capable hardware...

Yeah but the old wireless headset used a proprietary radio system. I know what you mean though. It worked before so why change it? Although I wouldn't mind better sound quality. Sometimes I find it difficult to understand what people are saying although the Xbox wireless headset is better than the crap Bluetooth quality on ps3. I stopped using headsets altogether on the ps3 because everyone sounded like they were talking whilst drinking a glass of water

Exactly, there's no need to change that part. I'm pretty sure the wireless processor on the motherboard would still be able to process the old signals if they coded it to do so... My wireless headset works great, the only thing I don't like about it is battery life. I'd rather they improve that than the quality.
