    Help Gaming laptop

    Hey,

My laptop is slowing dying on me, and I am starting to look in the market for a new one.

I do not have alienware money, but I would love to be able to play some new games on a laptop such as the new FFXIV due out this month.

Does anyone have any suggestions or reviews on a decent priced gaming laptop? I dont really want to go over £1000 as I cant justify it (to the mrs)

Check out these guys http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/ They have good range of custom gaming laptops and you can post the spec you're thinking of getting in their forums and someone will give you advice on it.

I have one of those projects that I have never got around to actually messing around with yet, that gives a unique (and cheap) answer to this issue.

    If goes something like this....

Gaming PC (a lot cheaper and upgradable)

    Linux streaming server

Play the PC game on old laptop on your local lan (a bit like your personal onlive)

So basically I would have a desktop somewhere in the flat, connect the laptop up to it and the desktop basically uses the laptop as the monitor over the lan?

Basically yes, but you need a 2nd (linux) server to do the streaming.

So you have a Gaming PC doing the game.

A Linux server handling the streaming across the Lan (and the keyboard/mouse/gamepad inputs from your laptop)

Then any Laptop/PC/device can link to the game and play it.

I have never tried it, but the theory is sound.
