Default Cheap mini fryer from Argos

Thought I would post this in here as I want to experiment with cooking and with it been mini it won't appeal to the fat gits in Biggy 7's

This one is half price at £14.99 http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...er/9098350.htm
has a 1.5l Oil capacity and a permanent filter.

Reviews are good, the odd Muppet complaining about it but you will get that from people who think eating healthy is by cooking your own unhealthy food rather than goto the Chippy...

I pick mine up tomorrow and want to have a go with making my own fried delicacies from time to time.
I have tried so many times to do things in a frying pan, in the oven, but they never come out crispy and I am never satisfied. We eat healthy but from time to time you need a fryer to get the true flavour/texture!! Oven chips are getting on my tit ends.. Never come out right and the same is true when I make sweet potato fries or wedges.

Will probably have a go over the weekend and report back.

Got myself a de'longi roto-fryer recently for the same reasons as you.

It's pretty good, spins the basket at an angle in the oil so you don't use as much and the food isn't in the oil as long. Was worried that it would effect they way things cook but so far I've been well impressed.
Makes triple cooked chips to perfection. When I stick them on a paper towel to drain the last of the fat it's almost non existent and certainly no oily taste.

Only thing I can fault it on is cooking things that are battered. This is because you can't float them in the oil to crisp up the coating. As a result the bottom tends to get stuck to the basket. It's very possible to get it out intact but can be pretty fiddly especially as the basket is still hot.

Fortunately cooking battered food wasn't the main reason for buying it so it's something I can live with. Price was about £80 so quite a bit more than your paying but I'd say it was worth it.

As I don't use it very often I'd be keen to see some of the things you intend to use it for, share some recipes, get a bit more use out of it. I'm still searching for the best fried chicken recipe, best one I've found so far is on Mongolian kitchen, not really like kfc but bloody tasty all the same.

I do want to do some deep frying hence the reason for buying this one and not an Actifry type.

I have tried doing buttermilk chicken with panko many times under the grill/oven but it never works. The bottoms are always soggy and it doesn't taste how I want it too.
Also watching a lot of Diners, Drive Ins and Dives recently there is soooo much I want to have a go at.

With the Delonghi, what about if you put it on a bit of parchment paper?

Been looking at getting one of these for ages, but hate the smell of fried food, tends to linger for ages.
How good are these permanent odour filters?

This is precisely the reason I have never invested in one.. The Smell.

For something £15 (even £30) I am not holding much hope... We will use Olive Oil although I am not sure that will make much difference in the smell.
Fortunately I do have some outside sockets, if I find after the first use it stinks the house out then I will do the future frying outside.

I got the Philips Air Fryer, great bit of kit, I even do roast potatoes in it since it is effectively a high power fan oven. .

The roto-fry works well for deep frying things, that's why I was so surprised.
Didn't even think of using parchment paper, will give it a try next time I have a bash

Here's a photo of my last attempt at the Mongolian kitchen fried chicken burger, please ignore the lame bread, all I had to hand at the time.

Edit: the smell is quite bad from the Roto fry but as it only uses a litre of oil it doesn't tend to linger too long. I just keep it by the window and have it open during and after cooking, usually gone within the hour.

    That's worked out pretty well!
How would it cope with Onion Bhaji's etc..

Looking at the video on Argos, not sure if parchment paper would work.. I didn't realise it worked that way, I thought you were talking about one of those actifry ones where you only put a spoonful of oil in.

What is the smell like during/after cooking?

I've not tried onion bhaji's yet, the food does get fully submerged so I can't see it being a problem, I'll hunt out a recipe, give them a bash and let you know how they turn out.

I was after one of these as i get peed off doing things like bhajia and tempura in a just a normal pan with loads of oil spitting everywhere.

Will be interested in your feedback goldberg.

Sure. iNSPECTA got me intrigued with the Delonghi one now... But I will get the cheap one to start and see how that goes.

Also looking at Garden Sheds, which might become my Garden (Fire Hazard) Kitchen

Will probably be picking it up tomorrow (reserved at local store) and use Sat/Sun
